Default C8 why no scissor doors or McLaren dihedral doors

As I was leaving the Kerbeck Atlantic City debut and appreciating what corvette c8 engineers had designed , engineered and developed the one thing that would have put the car completely over the top would have been doors that swung upwards like late model mclarens and Lamborghini aventador.

I’m unsure of the correct engineering term but scissor doors/ dihedral and my 20 year son calls them butterfly doors.

since gm started from a clean sheet of paper it would have been easy and efficient. Ingress and egress is better and I like the doors on my mclaren it’s always an event getting in and out. Factory gm engineered parts would have been easy.

Hey GM put them on the super high horsepower models soon to debut .........you won’t be able to meet sales demand!

Because Tadge hates them. Personally, I love the way they were implemented on the 720S, with part of the roof opening with the door. It makes it much easier to get in and out.

Pretty much. Tadge said you get dirty rainwater on you if you open them after getting wet.

That's probably true, but I'll bet money was no small part of the equation as well. Non-standard doors are expensive doors.

The “Swan” doors on Aston Martins are effective at avoiding high curbs and are not ostentatious at all IMHO.

They are going to make too darn many of them... many will fall into hands of peoplewho will wreck them,,,,, imagine fixing a door like that... and the insurance cost...

unfortunately this is a car for the masses... and the masses are often idiots

They're expensive to implement, plain and simple.

FWIW, Macs are known to have trouble with their doors, door alignment, door closing, door glass, etc. Obvies it's not a universal problem but it's not an uncommon issue. Every model they've put out has had some issue.

Guys the mclaren doors when designed by factory OEM engineers are bullet proof. Lamborghini and others have them.
I have 2 mclaren cars a 570s and an mp4 spider . Mclaren decided proactively to install them on all their cars . Wow factory and it works. No pain .
‘Simple hinge gas rod and soft close. The doors are great and look cool.
‘No extra cost it’s a hinge and a large gas strut rod.
GM if you are listening don’t wait phase it in on Zo6 / zr1 iyou sell more cars and turn more heads.

As the owner of a McLaren 570GT in addition to the Z06, I appreciate the looks my doors get. But they are a PITA to live with. Fine for a weekend of fun driving. Living with them as you would with a daily driver causes you to get tired of them real fast. Side clearance is the biggest issue. Smart move by Tadge and his crew.

First off, all mclarens have them. Not just “late model ones”. Second, simply because it’s a corvette...

I wouldn’t say bullet proof. I was talking to the owner of this 720S and noticed a crack in the glass in the roof portion of the door and asked her about it and she said it wasn’t the first time it had cracked.

Do any of you drive in the winter? Anyone keep a car long enough to have to replace a gas strut? Gas struts have a life, and they are susceptible to loss of lifting capability with lower temperatures (simple physics).

Corvettes are daily drivers for many, not the same as McLarens or Lamborghinis.

That has nothing to do with the way the doors open.
