Default Will the 2020 be a collector item?

So I’ve been pondering this for a few days now...

It’s a mass-produced car, but also an American icon. This is a huge shift in design philosophy, and you can’t deny that there’s at least SOME historical significance to the first model year (as opposed to the 2021, 2022, etc.). Do you think it’d be wise for people to buy one just to squirrel away for 20 years or so?

Not saying I have buy-a-Corvette-to-squirrel-it-away money, but surely somebody does. Could this be a collector item at some point?

Sure, if you keep it in great shape for 50 years or so and don't drive it, it will probably be worth a little more than what you paid for it . . . perhaps outpacing inflation.

Doubt it... there will be tens of thousands made... first model year won’t be worth any more or less 20 years from now.

That’s kinda my feeling. But even if they make 30,000, most will get beaten up and (hopefully) driven a ton. If you find one in 2050 with 5k on the odometer, our Venusian overlords might find it valuable. You know, for anthropological purposes.

Ya, no. Watch, they are going to make WAY more of these than any other previous generation. They are going to sell like hot cakes and they are staffing up to make a ton of them.

Not outpacing the loss of capital for "50 years." Very poor return.

Can't wait when they are 30 grand! Still probably won't be able to mod it though.

More like if you find one in 2070 with 500 miles on it. Basically new. And even then it’ll probably be worth what was paid.

I’d say a C7 ZR1 has a better chance than the C8 as the last manual super Vette with low volume production. But by the time any modern Vette is worth something I expect most of us to be in the dirt.

68 was the first run of the C3. There were one year parts for those cars. When I went to buy a C3, I avoided looking at the 68s because of the single year parts, and the cost. So... as to value, who the **** knows, but to think you are getting an additional bonus value, I'd say not.

It would be about the same as buying a 2019 C7 and hoping the value would pinge on it being the last year of the front engine rear drive Corvettes.

Value that as you may.

It could be a collector but at this point who knows? But I bet there will be quite a few put in storage at the back of the garage.

If GM decides to pull the plug on Corvette, and it's a ne year wonder, then yes.

But they wont do that, they'll keep making improvements. The last year of each generation has always been the best (63 coupe excepted).

Gasoline powered passenger cars likely won’t even be allowed on public roads by 2050.

Unfortunately I think its quicker than that. And, gasoline will also be banned as a carcinogen so you'll need special permits for handling and storage.

The only truly collectible cars will be those of history value or extreme beauty and most of those will be prior to 1969

Probably not to the world. But my C8 is going to be my forever car. One of the first mid engine Corvettes in the world. So it’ll be a collectors item to me .

Agree. And if I decide to move out of my '19 M7 Z06, that would likely be what I would be looking for...
