High wing - pros & cons?
I really like the look of the high wing, but am not sure about its benefits. I read somewhere that a C8 wing provides 400 lbs of down force, but it wasn't clear if it's the high wing or the normal Z51 spoiler. I presume top speed is higher without any of the wings, but would there be a difference between the normal Z51 spoiler and the high wing?

high wing on my C7...similar style to C8 Z51
C7 high wing had different mounting points than Z51
C8 mounting points are the same for Z51 & high wing
trunk access > a real drawback with the C8 high wing
my C8 preference is NO wing with body color accents

I believe that the 400 lbs of downforce was for the standard Z51 configuration. My guess is that the high wing will not be as effective as the standard Z51 wing, but who knows. I did submit a post requesting a response from anyone with access to the actual, comparative numbers. However, no one has responded.
All of the GM provided aerodynamic animations show the standard Z51 wing with airflow running both below and above the wing with the flow close to the cars surface. But, of course, a high wing could be designed to be better than the stock Z51 wing. However, a higher downforce rear wing would need to be balanced with suitable, equivalent front downforce in order to maintain vehicle balance.
I like the looks of this combination since the middle of the wing mimics the black shape below the license plate area.

Not going with the high wing because:
(a) I never track the car so it has no real-world advantage, and...
(b) It will probably make getting stuff in and out of the trunk more difficult, and...
(c) Looks are subjective, however I prefer a less outrageous appearance

I definitely thought about your second point. Since the wing isn’t attached to the trunk opening, you’ll have to lift everything over the high wing to put things in the trunk. Less convenient for sure but not a deal breaker. Plus, this is a mid engine sports car... I’m willing to live with certain inconveniences, that goes with the territory.

That would be a very minor issue since nothing big would fit in the rear trunk space in the first place. So it should be easy to lift stuff in there.

IMO it does look better and I'd order with whatever aero package it comes with. To Each Their Own!

Kind of intended as a joke... I don’t even golf lol. But the rear trunk was designed to accommodate the Corvette standard two golf bags.
i like it better with the wing too, and I typically don’t like wings at all. Gives the car a more aggressive, McLaren look.

Corvette standard bags must be micro bags. I used to golf but no longer so not really an issue. But I would miss being able to carry my bike like I can do in my C7. Even so the 8 is starting to grow on me... a little.

My personal preference playing with the builder is the high wing. But, since it is a dealer installed option and not available with museum delivery, my second choice would be no wing. Of course, I would probably want the Z51 package, and highly doubt they're going to let you do wing delete, so I guess I'd be stuck with that ugly factory thing long enough for the aftermarket to come up with a knockoff of the factory high wing.

I really think the big wing fixes the rear end a decent bit .. full aero kit makes the car look amazingly racy. If you want a more sleek and daily driver look I can see why many people wouldnt want it

I will be attending the C8 Design Seminar this Saturday at the Concourse D’Elegance in Plymouth, MI and this will be one of my question to the design team as to “why” is this a dealer only installed option as I too would prefer NCM delivery.
If I don’t get a clear answer at the seminar, then I will ask directly to the Chevy Teams as the NCM 25th Anniversary event in August.
Cheers,
Goose

However you're right. It has a total Frunk/rear storage of 13 CF versus the published C7 coupe of 15- BUT I can't fit my normal product box in that space! Have to hope the wife's not using her SUV that day! Even with wheels off you won't fit a bike! Can fit groceries!

If you have the high wing you just remove whatever items from the side.

Not an issue for me. I don't use the car to haul stuff or travel so I don't need the payload. It's just a big toy with a cool wing.
