Now that my Kool Aid has worn off...not sure about the design
Let me start by saying I will be getting a C8 but I think I will just wait for the Z06 model to come out. That being said, I think they could have done better with the rear quarter and specially the rear end! Imo, the car is too long looking. They could have shaved off 5-7 inches and I think would have made a dramatic difference! The car seems too long in my eyes. Kind of droopy like a wet diaper. Also, why can't the Corvette design team make a really nice tapered, flowing and non bulky rear end?
And I see that they are going to make right hand versions to attract some European and Asian markets, but this car seems too long for those markets. This one has me scratching my head.
I reserve final judgement till I actually see one in person but for now I'm hoping they change the rear lighting and bumper on the Z06 model to make it more attractive!
All that said, this car is a home run!! Amazing feat of engineering by the Corvette team!

Totally agree with the car being too long and a 5-7 inch reduction would make a big difference.

Sure just chop 5 to 7 inches off I'm sure everything would still fit perfectly and you wouldn't lose any storage in the rear trunk. I mean I'm sure they chose the length totally arbitrarily and not for any particular functional reason at all.

I'm sure they could have made the car shorter by 5" or so and still managed some kind of trunk in the back. Plus the front bonnet can carry a small bag or two.

Waiting on second year of the Z if at all. Right now I am not feeling the car overall, but the Z may be a widebody and have forged internals. Time will tell I guess. I look forward to seeing some of these in person

The longer the better in my opinion. I like what they did here. My wife wishes the front end was longer lol.

2020 C8 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
So I think this might be my new daily driver. Its not a sportscar. Its a GT.
The sooner people realize this the sooner they will understand what it does well and what it does poorly.

I do agree with you. They had to fit the golf clubs and I think it pushed the dimensions too far and makes the rear look too long.

It is a frustrating car to look at because with a few tweaks here and there it could have been incredible.
I'll buy one because of the platform and performance. It looks way better in white from what I saw.
Design wise the C7 was a better effort because it was such a huge leap, especially in the interior.
GM's credo should be "So close, yet so far". That is indicative of most of their cars. If I could drive with my eyes closed I'd be driving a ATS-V but the interior is sub par for a 70K car.

I hope the Z is better looking. Things that really detract from all the pictures: the wheel designs are crap, they don’t fill the wheel wells (lots of gap), and the offset is tucked in just a bit too much.
Fortunately, those should be pretty easily fixed.

Not all styling decisions are driven by aesthetics. There could be engineering, safety and other considerations involved in the final design.

I will deal with the looks and the Great Wall of China row of buttons inside if there’s a high revving twin turbo V8 in an upcoming version. I’m with Cajun tho, wait til second year Z and if someone cracks the uncrackable internet level encryption they are bragging about.

I agree the car looks long. I also agree that the trunk space was probably a well-considered addition that preserves the car as a GT. However, I am frustrated that 458/488’s are drop-dead gorgeous while this car is more interesting than beautiful. Still, the layout is what is really exciting and the value proposition makes me want one.

That being said...at this moment i personally feel the C7 is a better looking car.

Am I the only one here that likes it, but wishes it were even longer?

"In honor of jpee"
There's a full-on rear end shot in a thread here by MT or R&T. It's from a lot lower so it shows the whole deal, straight on. Wideeeeee, and so much going on, so many lines, angles, curves. I don't know what else to say unless and until I see it in person. It looks … busy. Very busy.

How? I think it's the very obvious reason why this car is longer than the Ferrari/Lambo/Mac ME cars. And that "some kind of trunk" still has to be big enough to fit the targa top in.
