More the mid-engine configuration, but the DCT and eLSD certainly contribute.

Heck the LT1 Crate Motor produced 535 hp ~3 years ago! BUT the torque was not much more that the 460 hp base car! It didn't have variable cam timing because the higher lift, longer duration cam would cause valves to hit pistons. It required large long tube headers and probably had no accessories to get that hp number. It does NOT meet EPA exhaust emission requirements.

The 495 hp LT2 uses large long tube headers, long straight shot intake runners and meets EPA requirements! Remarkable job. Achieving a <3 second 0 to 60 time with a C7 it requires a 650 hp Z06 with 335 section width rear tires. The C8 is achieving that with only 305 section width rubber and a street drivable engine!

Yep "back in the day" could always add 100+ more power with a high lift, long duration cam, headers etc and produce an engine had so little power until 2000 rpm it was no fun to drive on the street! That was 100+ octane gas and gearing that gave very poor mpg! Don't think any of the "just add 5 more hp" folks appreciate what it took to get what GM achieved!

Just Sayn'

The create engine also has GM ported heads iirc, so it's a decent bit different than the stock LT1 that goes in production cars.

I agree though, GM is capable of making more power, but in the production cars they have to balance a lot of competing priorities like NVH, mileage, emissions, durability and probably a host of others.

Just have to be patient and wait for the dyno numbers... THey could be underrating it for emissions or some other reason.

This is just the base car. Big boy will be out before too long! That is what I am interested in.
