It’s a shame that because many of people writing here are unable and apparently incapable of discussing Cumberford’s analysis, what do they do - they simply trash him.

For some perspective it would be nice to know which car designs he likes.

Here's the take on the C8 by stylist extraordinaire Robert Cumberford, who worked on C1 Corvette styling early in his career:
https://www.automobilemag.com/news/2...sign-analysis/
He can articulate in professional terms the disappointment that so many of us feel about the looks of the C8. Terms he uses in his article include:
generic
a day late and a dollar short
the multiple lines across the hood are fussy, messy, and essentially excessive.
There are entirely too many busy surface changes on the basic form.
Let your eye follow the rear door cut up the side of the car to see how many planes it traverses.
The stuff under the tail is complex, and one would like to credit aerodynamic studies for it, but it needs explanation. It’s just as well to have made it invisible with black paint.
Another grouping of non-quite parallel, not-quite horizontal hard lines. Busy, busy…
The backlight ..... is minuscule.
There are three inward-facing bands created by surface changes on each side of the roof and upper structure. Two would have been plenty. None might have been better.
This three-flat-sided construct on the roof and the indented, forward-pointing section on which it sits are hard to comprehend. It all seems like a lot of nice detailing to no clear purpose.
It’s apparent that the side scoops stand quite proud of the nominal main door skin, and that the C8 is very wide-hipped, rather like a dually pickup with its fat fenders.
A ‘square’ steering wheel seems a bit odd, but perhaps it is to evoke current F1 practice.
As commendable as the touchscreen is, this long slot of unergonomic tiny switches is distressing. I suppose after a long period each user will remember the what and where of 20 to 21 touches, but it’s asking a lot for people who drive more than one car regularly.

Im 45. Can't stand bland ME cars because cars such as the LaFerrari and the Aventador etc exist.... i prepared myself for what i knew would be a hughly mass produced ME....
It's the Fiero 2.0. Period. Go back read the reviews of that reveal cut to the chase.
In fact the fiero had more style than this mismatched car. Front fedelnders forward look like the base C8 and the doors back look like a Forza edition....
Calling it like it is. Its the emperor's new clothes. Anything that showed up on that stage was going to be the best of the best ever no matter what. Give me a break.
Said it before look through my posts for months... the C9 has a good chance of looking the part inside and out. The C8 is their first venture in ME design since the 80s for this conpany. AND it has to be able to be assembled on a busy line by union workers from 18 to 65.. i mean come on.. we can only expect so much.. at least the firdt time out.
I don't hate the whole car.. but its a mishmash of design like this elderly designer says.
Watch in 6 mos what everyone is saying all the critics... everyone oooooo ahhhhhh. Gets old and your eyes start to see the forest for the trees.
Every gen has been like this. But this reveal is beyond given the radical ME change...
Meh...

Yes, the C-8 is a bit 'busy' design-wise......so was the 63 splitty....you saw how they removed 'excresences' year by year...the 67 came out nice!
I agree with Robert wholeheartedly....the 'Squircle' steering wheel is asinine...2021...Round Steering wheel.
Love the price !

The one thing that, for me, is truly BAD is the Z51 spoiler. I just can't get over it. The upside is GM just saved me a bunch of money because I will buy a base car to avoid that horrible piece of plastic.

Lol at this critic. You find me another car with this warranty, style, horsepower at that ******* price. It doesn’t exist. Don’t get me wrong i understand it may not be for everyone but Chevy knocked this out of the park. Now middle class folks who are fiscally responsible can have the same fun as rich people with a tear engine car. So tired of all the glass half full people shitting on good innovation.

I think the C8 looks better than I expected. There are a lot of details that I think could have been done much better and I don't think it is amazing, but I think it is one of the nicer looking cars today. I don't like the interior (weird steering wheel, out-of-place looking touchscreen, and strange huge divider between the driver and passenger). If you could get it with a manual transmission, I would want one (after a couple of years because I have serious concerns that the quality is going to suck).
Some of you guys are being really disrespectful to Cumberford. His take on the C8 isn't that of just some old guy. He gives specific and detailed reasons why he thinks it is not a good design. Old or not, his views seem much more thought out than what any of us are saying.

Robert Cumberford has been writing about car design longer than a lot of youse mugs have been able to read. He liked the C7 and the C2. He likes the Lambo Miuri. He likes the Ferrari 458 Italia. I think he said he was disappointed, but he still likes the overall design. I get what he says about the body surfaces being somewhat incoherent and too busy. I agree with him. It has twice as many bumps and creases as it needs. As a result, when you look at it close up, it looks more like a Chevy Blazer than a C7. This is because the Corporate styling shop made the Corvette guys put a lot of surface features on this car that tie it to their other products Only when you walk 20 feet away, does it looks like a proper ME sports car. They could and should have done better.
If you want proof of my thesis just check out these four pictures - Red with black accents on both vehicles - for the same purpose - to make it look like something out of a stupid a$$ video parlor game. Check out the similarities of the front clip, the side rails and the rear clip - even the shape of the "holes". This is NO accident. "A horse designed by committee looks like a camel".
Clearly not a "less is more" approach, but more in line with the Japanese "surface excitement" school. The C8 is not a bad looking car overall, but it will never be remembered as the styling milestone of Bill Mitchell's Stingray Racer which became the C2, or even the C7, (where the budget limits kept a lot excessive "features" off the mold line).

Disappointed? Just imagine how Porsche 911 owners are year after year because its impossible to tell the difference between a 1969 version to a 1986 or a 1990s to the present versions
