GM just torpedoed the C7

The one thing that will have an affect more than anything I believe is production numbers. They are going to attempt to basically double yearly production. That's going to drop the c7 a lot more than expected in a couple years. It will also affect the c8 holding its value. 120,000 c8's in enthusiasts hands in the next three years. even with a base price of 60k I really don't see GM being able to push those numbers without some steep discounts at some point down the road. Discounts on current models plus 1 and 2 year old models for sale on every street corner will ultimately hurt corvettes value in general. Should also be interesting to see how things pan out in a few years if/when the economy isn't doing as well.

I like the C8 but not to sure on the rear, like most others said we need to see it in person. With it being a huge departure from the FE I think all previous generations will see some bump value based on Generation and equipment. You can’t compare the two cars, they are completely different thus value impact will be limited to those that want a C8 now, the dealers will know this and low ball their trades. Simple supply and demand. I don’t see a manual option coming out, most other ME manufactures don’t offer manuals. From a simplicity and cost perspective I see why. So prior generations that sport a manual will most likely fetch a bit more from those seeking them out.

The C7’s amazing performance, handing and styling aren’t the least bit diminished just because there is a dazzling new Corvette coming out. If you like the C7, now’s the time to buy. There are probably a lot of 2019s out there for less than people paid for the equivalent 2014 new.

The C7 becomes worth significantly less than the 2006MY (and before) C6 or C6Z. Those are the cars that won't have "tattle tale tech" built into every single one of 'em. Sorry, ALL the C7's have "TTT."

I purchased a z06 just a couple of months ago knowing the C8 was coming. There's something to be said for owning the very last front engine/rearwheel drive american track focused car. I was originally thinking I'd keep this z06 for 3-4 years and trade in on a C8 Z06 when it comes out, but being the track junky I am I think I'll end up keeping this one forever regardless of whether I obtain a C8!

I drive a '16 Z06, pretty obvious from my avatar pic. never said I have a Lambo, you inferred that, I just don't care for ferraris. now, with the C8, I can have a ME without dealing with the exotic car world...
this happens with every new Gen. everyone acts like the old one is trash, yet the capabilities of that car did not change. the values might dip, but they don't "torpedo" and the cars hold their value pretty well for a Chevy.
I'll have a C8 for sure.

Manuals C7's will hold their value MUCH better.
But the depreciation curve won't really hit the C7's hard until 3rd model year of C8 since I think GM will probably raise the 2021 C8 MY price 3k in the second year which delays the depreciation a bit.
Will be interesting to see!
