C8 will DESTROY Cayman/Boxster and 911 sales

Nope
pcars will continue to sell to their premium market buyers.
They are fine cars. They offer status and performance. They hold value better. They have a cult following and many of them look down on domestic cars period.
Yea corvettes will sell 2-4 times the cars but pcar sales will not suffer at all
yes corvettes will beat them in the press lap times and hopefully in IMSA
winner-winner
and know what? Having Porsche around making great cars that cost twice what a vette costs is part of the fun. Car talk wouldn’t be half as fun if they weren’t around

Why else would you get a 911 or cayman/boxster over a C8? Unless you're just a "porsche guy", the clear choice is the C8. Here are some porsche 911 sales numbers after the C7 came out
911 sales by year - 2013; 10.442 2014; 10.446 2015; 9.858 2016; 8.901 2017; 8.970 2018; 9.647
Porsche cayman sales by year are similar. Slight downtrend. Are the 911/cayman buyers just switching out for Cayennes? Maybe but doubtful since Cayenne sales are similar in a trending slightly down year by year manner. MACAN - that's Porsche's cash cow. 7.4k sold in 2014 TO OVER 23.4k in 2018. Good for porsche but doubt the 911/cayman/boxster crowd are trading in their sports cars for Macans but who knows?
The biggest knock on the C6 was the interior and GM rectified that with the C7. 2014-2017 corvettes outsold 911's 3:1.
If you're a Porsche guy, the best thing that will happen to you is the arrival of the C8. It's just like Mustang and Camaro; competition between the two make them BOTH BETTER.
Porsche has been dinging their buyers for the past few years and I won't be surprised that the C8 will be the FINAL straw for them to leave Porsche. Why would you want to spend MORE MONEY to have porsche REMOVE BACK SEATS LOL. OR MORE MONEY TO SWITCH YOUR DOOR HANDLES TO A STRAP LOL.
People bought caymans because of the mid engine feeling and maybe because it's a superior sports car to the 911 but that's a different debate. The 911 starts at over 92k now and for a nicely equipped one, you're at around 125k which isn't supercar money yet but...over 125k...for a 911...? I will admit the build quality is great the 997's from 10+ years ago show that.
Motortrend had head to head episode 82 with the 2017 grand sport vs the 911s. That 911 was 150k!! And still lost out to the C7 grand sport which was 2/3 the price!
The cayman/boxster buyers who want the mid engine feel but don't want to deal with Porsche's dinging and diming them will switch over to the C8 since they're about the same cost anyways. And the 911 guys...well a lot of them will switch over too because of simple economics $$$. All that'll be left of the 911 guys are those who are just 911 guys (nothing wrong with that, 911's are GREAT cars).

Highly doubt it. Porsche guys typically have no interest in Corvettes or any other non-Porsche cars. You will have a few outliers but most Porsche guys will not jump ship. They really do not care that the Corvette is a better performance bargain. The C7 Z06 has always been a much better performance bargain than the 911 and not many jumped ship for it.

If I could afford one I'd buy a new Porsche, simple, but since I can't and don't want a 10 year old one I'm going to go with my second brand new Corvette, also simple.

In my opinion the Corvette and the likes from American cars are nothing but cars that cannot put the power down. And with the bragging rights of them doing burn outs, I couldn’t be turned off more. However, for the first time ever I’m in love with a Corvette and looking for the C8 Z06 to replace my 991 turbo. And there are other friends and Porsche fellows who’re considering the C8 too.

If we don't think Porsche isn't taking notice then we are delusional.
in my email today I received an email from Porsche. Think the C8 had something to do with this? Damn right it did.
Dear Mr. Xxxxxxxxx,
The "Porsche Visualizer AR app" allows you to virtually position your individually configured Porsche in your own surroundings. Admire it in your living room or park it in your garage. All you need are the app and an augmented reality-enabled smartphone or tablet.
Learn more about the Porsche Design DNA and use the X-ray view to discover hidden highlights, such as the drivetrain, for example. The exterior color and alloy wheels can be personalized and the Porsche dynamically driven using the interactive drive function.
Your Porsche Team

I bet that’s been in the works for no less than a year, more likely two or more. Long before anything was concrete about the C8.

Huh? Do you know how long it takes to develop software like that? You really think that in just a week Porsche saw the C8 visualizer and was able to throw one together to compete with the C8’s?

Are you willing to pay $400 for an oil change, $1200 for two year service, and $2000 for four year service? If the answer is yes, I'm sure you can work something out.

Is it as much fun to go fast "sedately"? Not to me, anyway.

I respectfully disagree. You see, buying a sports car is an emotional decision. There’s nothing rational about it. If the car triggers one’s senses we buy it.

My take from our car club. Young guys getting into the money ecstatic about the Corvette C8. Old guys who have a lot invested in Porsche support their brand to no end. I think the future is quite bright for Corvette ...

Middle school dick waving …..what nonsense....the C8 will not destroy Porsche sales.....I have owned Porsche's since the 60's and currently own three.....a 9!!, a Cayman and a restored 1957 356 Coupe ……..the problem with Porsche's is the cost of maintenance …..about $500 for a oil and filter change....and god forbid if you need to replace anything or seal the engine....
Every Porsche owner I know will give you the " bang for the buck" credit that is due a Corvette.....but they are completely different animals....I and a friend picked up my Cayman in Portland and drove it home some 300 miles through the Cascades.....we drove a FRC down and back to get the Cayman and switched cars every 75 miles or so... after the precision of the Cayman....the Corvette felt more like my Silverado.
I intend to get a C8 but I don't intend to trade or sell a Porsche...…..

You'll get used to it haha I have buddies with McLaren 570s' and an oil change and year checkup is $1300. The 570 uses a BMW E92 oil filter and Mobile 1, now that's an expensive oil change and "check up". For the service you get at Porsche and only needing an oil change a year, its reasonable

I am in the market for a 718 Cayman S , but started looking at C7s and may now wait for the C8 to come out . I figure I could order a 2021/22 for what I was looking for a pre-owned Cayman S / GTS

As much as I enjoy driving a Porsche....if I was to drive across the Country and back, I would do it in a Corvette...
I think the most beautiful car is the McLaren FI in Black.....I can't afford one....soooo the C8 will be as close as I can come....the poor man's FI…..thank you GM....

These are different cars. The GM is no Porsche was not intended to be. I do nave a feeling when the full blown HP version of the C8 (hybrid AWD ) is released Performance wise will shade anything Stuttgart can produce.
