Not really since GM Cadillac has been stepping up their game on that side of the Gm fence with racing too. Don't really know if its due to Mercedes getting back into racing, but it didn't help the cause either.
Plus, when your dropping a $150K+ car on market to go up against other luxury sports cars produced abroad (like the Merc's and the NSX), its an easier sale to do with a Cadillac branded card that is seen as more of a refined car to start with, then with a Vet that the rest of the world just considers to be driving by "Hillbilly Rednecks in ***-less Chaps" kind of unrefined savage crowds isntead.

De Nyschen was recently talking about 18 new Cadillac models in the next three years. And what models does Cadillac need to compete with it major competitors? CUV’s, SUV’s and hybrids. A very tiny take rate Cadillac sports car does nothing to turn Cadillac around. They have their hands full, most would argue, more than full, to get that brand in order in the next three years.
It is not ME Cadillac at least until around 2022/2023 when they could, having then addressed its much bigger deficiencies, then consider icing on their cake with a hybrid, or more probably all electric Cadillac sports car. Let us also remember that in the Markit Engine Forecast’s latest version, unlike an earlier version, the amount of “Cadillac Sports Cars” was reduced to 0.
For those who want to investigate this question, we already have a long thread on this question.

We keep taking this thread sideways, and it will be closed.
Let’s not have it closed please by our sticking to one subject, our collectively, collaboratively, and constructively peeling the layers off the ME’s camouflage.

You know, we are at the point of asking "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin ?" We are not going to know a whole lot more until the car cover / burka's come off. The sketches all are converging on a design that appears to combine the C7 nose and greenhouse with the McLaren MP4-12C side scoop and a$$-end. You can't say much more at this point.
I will make a point about all this, however. ME cars are hard to design, and because of packaging considerations, they all tied to look alike. Two exceptions are the Lambos and the Bugatti Veyrons. In both cases they tried to make these cars NOT look like the ME Ferrari's and they ended up looking like cockroaches. It is not out of the realm of possibility that the C8 will NOT be as visually stunning as the C7 was, but we've been there before. IMHO. the C2 was a much better looking car than anything that came after it until the C7.
We could be there again....original looking ME cars are simply hard to style. If it is as stunning as the Aria, then I think we will all be pleased, BUT we could also get a big Fiero. It is the same company.

Thank you very much. You provided some new info, yet confirmed what many of us have believed and earlier posted, that:
1) The final design is not going to be anything like the C7 (even discounting the proportional change we all know about);
2) It is going to be beautiful;
3) The tailights are not going to be round;
In short, those of us have been optimists all along, appreciate your strong verification. Thank you very much c7pimp!

The design renders of the C8 will never accurately portray the real beauty of the car. Think back to the Completely accurate Jalopnik release. They were spot on, but drawings don’t portray a cars real beauty. Nonetheless, I think this process of trying to come up with an accurate shape are fun and I appreciate the work of those involved in doing the drawings. I’m excited about this new direction for Corvettes. I just hope they aren’t too conservative with the design. I want it to look more Ferrari or Lamborghini. I’ll be disappointed if it looks something like a mclaren mp4-12c

Spot on Zevo, when you wrote, “I just hope they aren’t too conservative with the design.
I had a conversation with Kirk Bennion at the BASH about this very issue. There was one point when just he and I were surrounded by a SR, a GS, and a Z06, and I commended him by saying, “we all love these cars; you and your team did a fantastic job. I am not asking for a response in return, but you went bold on the C7, and we all hope that the next Corvette generation, whenever it arrives, will be similarly bold.”
He responded, which surprised me.

I have been trying to figure out that scoop area a bit more and finally went to the clay. The leaked CAD image shows the scoop area and body shape as described as being narrowed in the middle and wider at the wheels, but there is also an interesting sculpted shape at the scoop where it bulges and transitions to the rear. I feel that area will be more interesting than just an opening in the side. I think there will be a beautifully sculpted surface behind the scoop. I will revise my drawings when I figure it out!

Back in the late 70's/early 80's an aftermarket company(maybe Holly, I don't remember) made up some plastic blocks so that the auto parts/speed shops would have a nice display of their products mounted on an engine. The plastic block didn't have any interior components(crank, rods, pistons, cam, etc).
That looks to be what is sitting in the rear cargo space of the C4 in the photo
