the mclaren 570gt does not weigh that. That is dry. Weighs about 3300. Europe manufactures lie and commonly list dry weights even though it’ll NEVER weigh that when being driven. I’ll bet C8 starts around 3300 and goes up from there based on model

Thats correct for the 570s NOT the 570gt which weighs 3296. Either way that isn’t under 3000!!! The 720s is lighter but cost over 300k... both have Tons of CF and typically are over 200k. I’d guess the ME vette will easily undercut those with plenty of additional power.

540c isn’t sold in America unfortunately. The 570s is awesome I really do like that car but good luck finding a new one for that price. They are like Porsche and the 911, they don’t sell base cars. If mclaren expands more in a few years I’ll look into getting a used 570s, we’ll probably not because of the ME vette but if the ME doesn’t happen I’ll check them out!!

Based on increasing stringent federal mpg requirements the weight will go way down from the C7. This will be happening to all cars not just the Vette. The 2025 agreed upon fuel consumption standard will probably drop the Vette's weight to less than 3000 lbs. We are looking at new cars averaging 35 mpg in less than 7 years.

I hope the target is 3200 or less. The C7 is too heavy. Lower weight can use smaller tires and less power to get the job done.

I believe as GM moves to as many electrics as being discussed by GM executives which I believe is 20 ev s by 2022 ...

The corporate fuel economy standard will be a non issue.

I also believe the low cost of fuel and the current administration will soften future fuel economy standards.

That said...I agree European manufacturers are notorious of using dry weights as curb weights.

I believe 3300 lbs is a fair number for the mid rear engine corvette.

Of course if corvette goes to a Dohc then all bets are off as to how high the weight will go.

Same for battery electric hybrid nonsense,

If the c8 comes in the 3300- 3400 lbs I wouldn't be surprised.

I believe the base model will weigh around 3,400. Higher trims will use lighter, more expensive materials and the “Grand Sport” version could weigh 3,100lbs. ME cars are generally lighter than FE cars and a carbon fiber monocell would be far lighter and better handling VS aluminum. Hybrid variants will easily exceed 3700lbs. Maybe a Twin Turbo V or In-line six cylinder would put a model under 3000lbs. I’m excited for the ME Corvette

I agree, the corvette won’t be affected much by Fleet cafe Regs. There was an article I think on C&D comparing an LS1/2 vs a Mercedes 6.2 DOHC and the weight is very close. Dimensionally they are larger of course, they aren’t necessarily as heavy as you might think though. I do agree 3300-3400 would be where I see it. I don’t think they will be using a CF cage, it just adds too much cost to it.

One of the nice things about ME designs is that the chassis does not have to "withstand" the torque loads from the engine all the way through the rear suspension. In ME designs, the transaxle absorbs the TQ load directly from the engine. This alone can take 50-100 pounds out of the required weights of the car.

But, still, GM is not going to make the Vette any lighter than is cost/profit effective. My guess is that C8 will be in the 3300 pound range.

I doubt the mid engine Corvette will come in under 3,300 pounds. More likely more than that.

It's also possible the C8/ME will have a hybrid option and that would seriously skew weight numbers.
