Corvette Chief Engineer, Josh Holder, has agreed to come back on CORVETTE TODAY to answer YOUR questions about Corvette!

You may ask about Stingray, Z06 or E-Ray. This thread is the place to post your questions! In turn, I will send them to Josh. He will answer your questions on an upcoming CORVETTE TODAY episode!

Just remember, the Corvette Team does not answer any questions about future cars or projects.

Thanks for doing this, Steve! Here are my questions... all for the ERay:

Does the ERay have AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking)?
If so, can AEB be turned off so only the "Following Distance Indicator" is in use?
If AEB can be turned off, does an icon light up and stay lit on your dash or in the HUD? Would it need to be turned off each time the car is started?

What is the projected life of the 12-volt lithium-ion battery that starts the car?
What is the charging mechanism for that 12-volt battery (basic alternator, like most cars, or something more complicated/better/computer-controlled)?
Are there any special electronics that control the battery to not let it go dead (at least without giving a warning)?

How are both the 12-volt lithium-ion battery and 1.9 kWh battery pack in the ERay expected to hold up in cold (northern U.S.) weather?

Default Understeer

Does the Eray front drive hardware create a corner entry push in lower grip situations?
Does it freewheel on corner entry?
With active handling & traction control off do the front brakes interfere during power oversteer?
If TC & active handling is shut off does it stay 100% off at any speed?

I can't delete under the steer.

How do you think about the eray's positioning vs the rest of the C8 lineup? When should someone buy an eray rather than a base C8? When should someone buy an eray vs a Z06?

How do you think about the eray's positioning vs the rest of the market? What non-C8 is the eray's chief competitor? Who do you think is your target market, who is going to buy this?

This is the first corvette with an electric motor and a battery, what assurance can you give that these parts will last beyond the warranty in the same way that we expect Corvettes to work reliably beyond the warranty?

Is it any condition where the front motor battery can be drained turnig the car (temporary) in rwd?
My concern is, you may not be able to take advantage of awd when you need it.
For example in you start driving in Stealth mode and then you find yourself in a snowy road but you haven't used brakes enough to recharge.

Is it envisioned that higher capacity battery or higher capacity front motor will be developed or support for aftermarket?

What are the details for the ZER Performance package? How does this differ from the Z51 option?

E-ray= Will there be early ware "indicators" to replace the pads before they destroy the rotors and cost 20K to replace? I assume people will not be able to convert it.

Will adding little power adders like , headers , intake , exhaust that doesn't need a tune cause a cataclysmic failure?

What are the weight of the stock E-ray rims.

Did GM ever bring up the idea of having the E-ray on the non-wide body and if so what were the issues.

Dumb question of the day to break up the ice. = If a customer went out and bought a 2.5Kw battery from lets say Amazon and plugged it in parallel. 1) Would said customer be able to go 15 miles in silent mode or 2) Car catch on fire...

All questions about the E-Ray
  1. Can you enter back into Stealth mode at any time after the start of the ICE engine without parking the car? Lets say you are at a stoplight or stop sign and you have enough charge on the battery that you would like to finish the last mile or 2 of your commute back home in Stealth mode, is that possible?
  2. Is the E-Ray noticeably faster than the base Stingray in passing situations where you are already cruising at speed and apply full throttle, or is most of the power advantage off the start?
  3. How important is it for the ICE engine to remain at the factory horsepower level for the synchronization with the front drive?
  4. What would happen if the ICE horsepower was increased in a way that did not throw engine codes, whether it be small HP increases or large?

Is there an option to turn off any enhanced electric motor whine for the cabin? I love the sound of a lumpy V8, yet the whine of an electric motor is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me, and my desire for the Eray is the electric is supplemental to the V8, and is not something I wish to have emphasized in my driving environment. This may be different for other people, so an option to have or not have enhanced "whine" in the cabin seems like a reasonable concept.

Same question I had but doubt it will be answered at this point (at least not in detail). I have a decent chance at getting a 1st year allocation and would hate to find out that 2025 will come with enhanced capabilities re: the electric motor and battery.

GM people will never, ever, comment on unannounced product. As Tadge Juechter says "I like my job. I want to keep it."

He's also very unlikely to address unapproved, non-factory mods. As multiple GM people say: "if we don't make it or test it, we can't control it, and can't know what the effects will be." Josh could tell you "oh, a small increase won't cause any problem, and then someone interprets "small" as 150 HP and the car crashes and burns. If GM won't even talk about something as innocuous as a harness bar on a "track" car, they're not going to talk about HP adders or modifying the electronics with 3rd party batteries.

Disappointing.

BUT, I should be getting one of the first ERays, and I will be doing my own testing and letting you guys know things that GM and the Corvette engineers won't tell you!
