Default MGW shifter with regards to C7 ZR1

I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on the shifter for my car. Now after finding out a very important info with regards to their Flatstick version I think I might swing for that one.

Now, 1 important question I have and would like some input on this. In your opinion, does a flatstick shifter fit well with the theme and essence of what this car is??? I usually like the OEM look so I could go that route (it would look OE and the shifter isn't in plain view), but having the flatstick in there it will stand out and personally just not sure if it goes with the interior and the rest of the car.

I've shown both to the GF, she's not impressed with the FS look. I'm not that concerned about what she thinks on this topic but you know I'm gonna hear it if I did do the FS version in this car.

So, if I do go FS this is what I'm thinking: Car is white with black interior/red stitching, red seat belts so I was thinking red flat stick and white cue ball. What do you think?

I personally do not think it is a good fit for the image or just overall interior aesthetics of the ZR1. I bit too 60s muscle car, where I feel the ZR1 is more in line with a GT3 than those. But do what makes you happy.

Will need to see the GF in order to give the best advice. For science.

I prefer the stock look. But it’s just an opinion. The shifter itself is an excellent mod. The ZR1 and Z06 should come from the factory with one.

😂, I'll really hear it if I did that without her knowing.

Definitely a solid * ain’t happening *, so be careful. I’d sneak it in with the factory setup

Does anyone have the part # for the cup linkage piece that u reuse when changing to this shifter (part that goes into new lower box)?

If it's available separately and not too pricey I would do a new one with new shifter.

Most likely I'll stick with OEM look with MGW underneath.

This is the shifter **** that I went with. Two things that I don’t like about the mgw, it needs shorter throws & the shifter boot doesn’t attach to the ****. I think I’m going to switch back to my Hinson shifter

The stock collar on the boot probably only fits the stock shift ****, if u change to the **** u now have definitely wouldn't let the collar fit like factory.

This was part of the important info I digged for and got the answer I needed before deciding maybe the FS version of this shifter will work for me if I wanted to go with it.

LG short shifter can be modified to work with a factory ****. Just did one for a local customer yesterday.

I have the Callaway shifter and love it.
It is the same height as the stock shifter, uses the stock boot, uses the stock ****. It is completely stock looking and has short crisp shifts.

I did the install on my ZR1 and I much prefer the "stock" look. The flat stick would look awesome in a muscle car, though.

I was disappointed mgw didn't machine the grove for the stock boot to attach to the shifter..

So after doing a mad selling spree on kijiji locally and here also I've got the coin to buy this shifter. Now I need the border to open up and this Covid **** to go away, wait for a sale (usually 10% off and free shipping to Buffalo) and I can get this shifter (I'm gonna keep it OE looking).

I'm sure I'll have the shifter in my hands sometime during the summer/fall of this year and will look forward to a winter project install.

Well, I'm going the FS version it looks like, a CF member local to me listed a BNIB FS MGW today for a great price so I jumped on it. Picked it up early this aftn and is sitting at home currently.

The previous owner bought it for his C6 Z06 that he sold so it was never installed. Flatstick is black with black **** so when I get it installed I will be doing highway speeds in reverse. *sic*

I'll have to call MGW sometime and procure the proper 7sp shift ball for the shifter. Still looking at a winter time install so shifter will be a go for spring 2021.

The install only takes a coupe hours in the garage. Get at it and enjoy 👍🏻

Not motivated during this summer heat to be spending time in the garage opening my car up, I'd rather be driving it.

It really bothered me the last 3+ weeks having my car stuck in the garage while waiting for my splitter to be fixed.

It’s only a couple hours and well worth the time. Get up early when it’s cool and be ready for a drive after breakfast 😎
