VIR Full Lap Time Prediction
I just finished looking at some data of Koan in his GS at VIR and me in my Z06. Koan is a very good driver and one thing the data shows is that in general the cars are very even other than on the straights (I'll be posting a video walk through of the data).
What's also interesting is that the speed differentials between the GS and the Z06 on the straights are less than we saw between the Z06 and the ZR1 in the GM videos. As a result, I fully expect the ZR1 to be a solid 3-4 seconds faster than the Z06 at VIR just on speed alone. So that puts the car somewhere between a 1:51 and a 1:53 depending on driver and how close my estimates are. I also did a little slicing on the Jim Mero lap video with some of my own data and it looks to be about a 1:51 lap if he ran down the back straight instead of turning in to the infield section.
This car is going to be a track animal.

My money is on 3-5s faster than a Z07 Z06 in stock trim driven on the ragged edge meaning.... ZR1 will do low 1:50's on a good day with clear track. But I have a feeling that it may be capable of high 1:40's due to the extremely high straight speeds coupled with the trick downforce. I know in looking at my own data 3-5 MPH in just a single turn or straight can drop my times by 0.25 secs. I imagine 5 MPH more in every turn and +165MPH on the front straight and probably +175MPH on the back straight will turn into several seconds overall.
Stock tires --> 1:49-1:53
Slicks & changes --> 1:46-1:50
The question is will there be enough room and will you feel comfortable running the speeds needed to achieve those times? Either way I'll interested to see what these monster will do.
However, the ZR1 is not a “downforce car,” as it still relies mostly on mechanical grip. However, the amount of downforce it does have makes it very stable while cornering at speeds sometimes 10 mph faster than would be possible without the downforce. The faster you go in the ZR1, the higher the speed differential becomes at corner apex. For instance, turn 10a (45 mph minimum speed) feels no different in the ZR1 than it does in a Corvette Grand Sport, as it’s a mechanical-grip corner. But you can take the much faster turn 12 maybe 8-10 mph faster in the ZR1 (128 mph) compared to the Grand Sport. Fun stuff.

I have no doubt that you will demonstrate what the ZR1 is capable of on the Full Course before many months pass. When do you expect delivery? M7? What will you prove the fastest color to be? Are you enjoying disassembly of the Z06 as much as I would be?

The Z06 is back to stock and the offer I got from CarMax was insulting so she's parked to keep the miles off of her until it's time to trade her in.
Purely on statistics there are more Sebring Orange ZR1s than anything at the moment so the odds say that'll be the fastest color. Of course, that's also the color I got.

It will be interesting to see if the upgraded brakes can help shave time as well.

Based on Andy Pilgrim running the new ZR1 at Road Atlanta one second faster than his best Z06 time, I'm going 1:54 at VIR. Maybe 1:52-53 with Pobst/Pilgrim/Mero types driving it. Either way, that is crazy fast time.
I'll be at NCM - VIR this year. Hoping to get my Z06 below 2 minutes, but usually very full run groups. See you out there.

This thread has the breakdown between the GS and Z06 I mentioned as the basis for my prediction.
