Default Things We'd Like to Know

With the C&D article getting leaked last week and the official unveil today we're finally getting some details on the C7 ZR1. However, there are typically a lot of smaller details that don't get covered and usually we have to ask Tadge or folks in the engineering team about. Let's start a list of things we'd like to know and perhaps we can get these in as an "Ask Tadge" question now that the car is officially. Here's my list to start.

1) Has there been any significant improvements to brake cooling with the ZR1 over the Z06?

2) Are there any suspension changes for the ZR1 over the FE7 suspension and are they the same with and without the ZTK option. Spring rates, stabilizer bars and bushings, shock internals, etc.

3) How does the downforce and drag of the ZR1 compare to the Z06 options? It would be great to know front and rear percentages for DF as well as the drag change.

4) Has anything been done on the ZR1 to improve transmission cooling with the M7 and the A8?

What other questions to folks have?

I'm quite certain that will be released through normal channels. What I'm looking for are those little nuggets that they normally don't mention. I had to go to the engineering team to get the differences between the FE6 and FE7 suspension. Nobody knew about the 2017 extra brake ducts until they got the first cars.

In the article it mentions "specific tuning" of the mag shocks. So I would be interested in question #2 above.

I would also like more details on the "4 additional heat exchangers". Specifically, what exactly was added and what is the expected benefit? I know it is needed and very much appreciated, but I would like specifics.

Other things I want to know:

- Has the intank fuel pump been upgraded to accommodate the additional flow needed for DI and port injection?
- Is the HPFP the same as the LT4?
- Are the direct injection injectors the same as the LT4?
- Are the fuel delivery lines the same or have they been upgraded to handle larger capacity?
- with the addition of the port injection system, does the new LT5 still use the E92 ECM?
- Does the LT5 share the same crank as the LT4?
- Does the LT5 share the same connecting rods as the LT4?
- Does the LT5 share the same pistons as the LT4?
- Does the LT5 share the same engine block as the LT4?
- What is the compression Ratio of the LT5?
- Are the LT5 valves titanium for both intake and exhaust?
- Does the ZR1 still include "Eco mode"?
- Are there any improvements to the NPP exhaust system related to the ZR1?
- Does the ZR1 utilize an more robust clutch and pressure plate for the M7 vs the one that comes on the Z06?
- What is the 'Ring time?
- What is the 0-60 time?
- What is the 1/4 mile time?

Im sure I can think of more questions I have..

I don’t want to know anything. I know I probably can’t afford it, and it’s probably a crappy daily driver.

A few generalized answers, including stiffer chassis mention:

Published info indicates strengthened crank in the LT5.

I’m sure the bottom end will be all beefed up, they aren’t just going to do a bigger blower and stronger crank and call it an LT5, this car is going to kick some ***, I’ll be buying when they are discounted and will be looking for the small wing.
I don’t like big wings on cars, didn’t like it on the viper and went with a TA, don’t like it on any vette either.

Is there ANY chance GM will offer a ZR1 appearance package for the c7? Like the look, but the price and the fact I would not trust myself with 755 HP on the city streets!!

Has AFM been completely eliminated in the ZR1?

How is the PI programmed relative to the DI (e.g.: Assuming DI is active at all load and speed conditions, does PI kick in at just certain high load conditions? And if unfortunately the ZR1 has AFM, how does PI work with that?)

As for the nurburgring time it looks like we will have to wait a few months:

"....Speaking to Road & Track, Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter said that setting an official Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time for the C7 ZR1 is not a priority for the manufacturer, but that Chevrolet will nonetheless make an attempt some time after the new model reaches showrooms in the spring. Assuming the automaker is indeed able to pull off a lap quicker than seven minutes, it would mean the car is substantially quicker than the previous-generation C6 ZR1, which turned out a 7:19.63 lap in 2011.

In that endeavor, grip will be of the utmost importance, and the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1’s aggressive aerodynamic pieces and wide performance tires ought to provide plenty of it. No doubt Chevrolet would run an example fitted with the optional ZTK performance package, which boasts super-grippy Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and a two-way adjustable rear wing that contributes to 60 percent more downforce than the C7 Corvette Z06 with Z07 package.

We can’t wait to see what sort of time the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 can set at “The Green Hell,” and especially, whether it manages a faster lap than that other all-American monster-downforce-generating machine: the Dodge Viper ACR. (A crowdfunded privateer campaign produced a 7:01.3 Nürburgring lap time for the Viper ACR before the car crashed, putting an end to the efforts.)..."

GM has announced that the crank is beefed up (though no details were given).

I'd like to know if it's 755 horsepower for every lap, or 755 horsepower only for Lap 1.

Seriously though, I hope they have improved the cooling to a point where the engine can deliver near-full power repeatedly over many pulls, or over the duration of a track session. That'll be tough to do with a supercharged powerplant, but it would be a milestone achievement if it happens....... arguably more impressive than the horsepower rating itself.

How can I ensure that flames will shoot out the tailpipes when I overtake on track?

1. Forged or cast wheels?
2. Iron rotor option?
3. Option for plain composite in natural finish or paint for the side skirts and splitter as these are consumables.
4. Option to delete carbon fiber roof and engine/hood components?
5. Option for plain or just painted wing?
6. Option for GT instead of comp seats?

Rick

P.S. I'm pretty certain I know the answer to questions 2 thru 6 but listed anyway. Shame they have so much bling on the car that I personally could care less about.
