Default Cracked Wheels - What are my options?

My 2016 Z06 M7 wheels cracked and I need new ones.

3 things:

1) Have you bought aftermarket wheels? If so, which ones? I was looking at Forgeline, but upon reading this forum more that doesn’t seem like the necessary purchase for durable forged wheels

2) Do I have to bring the car in for an update to the magnetic suspension update to prevent that from happening again?

3) Should I go with a slightly smaller wheel diameter, and if so, howmuch smaller in wheel diameter should I go to have more sidewall to help prevent this from happening again?

thank you all for your advice

You do not need expensive forged wheels to prevent cracking/warping.

I have ADV flow formed wheels that have taken the abuse of Houston streets and backroads for years and 40k+ miles. My car is not babied either. Best part is they didn't break the bank.

I recommend going down to a 19 inch in the rear for more tire options. More sidewall could be a benefit too.
Also recommend the mag ride update for ride quality and general improvements alone.

Aftermarket is the way to go compared to OEM.

Here are some Rotary Forged wheel options for the C7Z.

Or if you want to go Forged as well.

If you want more of an OE Style look we have these for you.

Hi James,

Regarding the ZE11’s, are there any weight savings vs GM’s OEM Z06 wheels?

I have come to the conclusion that the roads in the DFW area suck...I mean...really suck! After bending/cracking 7 OEM's I went with Forgeline and have not looked back. I used to cringe every time I went over an expansion joint, but now I just enjoy driving!

Forgestar is a popular flow-formed wheel company. I don't recall anyone complaining about their durability. In the first photo, I have a set of CF10 wheels for my cold weather setup. They are 19 x 10 and 20 x 12.

The 2nd photo shows my warm weather setup, with VR Forged D10 wheels, which are monoblock forged. They were less than $3,000 for the set. Their standard powder coated finish quality is impeccable. They are 19 x 10 and 20 x 12.5.

Kevin,

Not sure what is stock but the ZE11 Front is 25lbs and Rear is 28lbs last i checked.
The GS01 is 24lbs front and 27lbs rear because it has less spokes.

Forgeline has the F01 Flow Formed series which I ordered from Gerry at CW4L last spring which are very affordable without having to go full forged.

I bought a set of flow formed wheels and within 2000 miles of use 3 of the 4 wheels got bent. I wish I had just purchased Forged wheels from the beginning. Check out MRR NES FG-X Forged Wheels. Factory size with flush offset. Each wheel is 2lb lighter than the factory wheels. The style works really nice with the car IMO

Flow formed from who? And what size? Forged wheels have cracked/bent before too so general statements don't really account for much. Some brands aren't as good as others.

Ok thanks! From what I can gather from other posts the OEM's are 27 - 28lbs fronts and 31 - 33lbs rears depending on the coating

Here are some numbers for comparisons. I am using 6061AL, which is by far the most common alloy used in the automotive industry. There are others, so if anyone knows what the "flowers" are using, let me know and I'll post their strengths. But here goes:

Spun 6061 has a yield strength of 8kpsi
6061 forged has a yield strength of 40.03kpsi

Ultimate strength is higher for both forms of the metal, but yield is when you get permanent deformation, so it is the important number to us. To summarize, a forged wheel will have 5 times more strength than ANY spun wheel.

Those wheels look stunning on your beautiful Vette, what finish did you select and do you mind sharing how much they cost as there's no pricing info on the MRR website?

I had them powdercoated in liquid silver with just the face brushed off. It's been like 4 months since I ordered them but I think they came to just over $4k

I'd recommend looking at Apex wheels.

They have two types of wheels including forged, and they offer several diameter options, including 18/18, 18/19 and 19/19. Check out their Vehicle Fitment Guide for c7 z06. Less expensive than other forged wheels too.

for the price of flow formed wheels you can get 1 piece forged wheels from precision forged in any design you can think of in any color painted or powder coated. my set was 2600 shipped with taxes.
having said that if you want a set off oem cup wheels with no bends or cracks but chips on the outside edges where the run flats were removed I have a set in oem sizes for cheap. I went forged so no longer want these. no tires just the cup wheels

Is there a way to get a stripe around the circumference? Something similar to this:
