P0430 Code
Hi all,
It's been a while since I've posted but I would appreciate any comments on the following:
A while back I posted about a mouse nest that was discovered under my supercharger. The mice chewed the insulation on my fuel injector wires causing a short and a misfire. I probably drove the car for 20 miles getting it home and then to the dealer. Since then I've had two instances of codes associated with misfires on different cylinders which I ultimately corrected by replacing all of the spark plugs. (20000 miles on the car). I now have a CEL with code P0430, Wondering if I cooked the Catalytic Converter with all of my misfire problems? Is this another trip to the dealer to get my wallet out? I cleared the code and am waiting to see if it comes back. Thanks for any advice!

Had the same code my Z06 has 7000 miles
Tighten up these bolts on exhaust.
Did this and got 1 turn on each bolt
The code didn't come back

Misfires and a bad O2 sensor can also cause that code. You should look into datalogging the car to see if it is counting misfires and what the O2 sensors are doing. Loose bolts as mentioned above is also a possible cause. A third cause, which is unlikely due to the low amount of miles you put on the car, is that the front Catalytic Converter is bad or damaged from the misfires.

Yes, with all those misfires you may have nuked your cats…I’d suggest taking your car to a diagnostic shop and not a dealership or a general repair shop…they only know how to replace parts and not diagnose…a diagnostician has the right specialized equipment to check your 0430…an exhaust leak anywhere between the front and rear O2 sensor can cause that code to set.

The dealer said the cats were covered by warranty for 8 years or so

Yes I called the dealer. my 2017 is still covered for a couple years.

By law, emissions systems are covered for a lot longer period of time on all cars. It's something like 8 years or 100,000 miles. They obviously DON'T advertise it because the law doesn't say it has to be advertised, just documented on the paperwork. But the manufacturer is responsible for all emission systems (certain parts of it) for way beyond the standard warranty period.
EDIT: "up to 8 years/80,000 miles for certain components"

There not going to make it easy.
But they know the problem is there?

The Federal Emissions Warranty is a fact and imposed on car manufacturers by the Government. My link to Google was so that you could google it and learn what it is. If you want to dismiss it as fiction, then go ahead. Doesn't bother me any.

Just a quick update.
My dealer confirmed that if I have a bad Cat, the emissions warranty is still in effect. I'm taking the car in tomorrow. Really wish I hadn't cleared that code but hopefully its stored in history.

Well, the code came back before I took the car in for service. GM covered the replacement 100% under the emissions warranty. My service manager said the repair would have cost me just a little north of $1500.00 so I am grateful to the forum members who tipped me off to the extended warranty!! Thanks again!!
