Default A8 Re-Gear Options?

Hello all! I did a couple searches on this topic and there really wasn't much there except for people telling A8 owners to get more power...or to get an M7. I will be getting more power down the road but that obviously doesn't change the issue.

As all of us A8 guys know, our cars fall flat in 5th gear. My A8 is tuned but that really doesn't help it that much. Is there any options out there to re-gear 5-8? It would be great to change the ratios in 5th, 6th, and 7th!

Good question. About how fast can you reach in 4th?

Always wondered why they didn’t use the 10spd like the ZL1

I believe the 10speed is a physically bigger trans and the C7 was already designed and released before the 10speed came out. The Zl1 was 2 years later.

Doubt you can regear but you can swap for a different ratio diff. Like the Z51 2.73.

Not sure how much or what the real difference in changing to a different rear end ratio does, but when I trashed my diff at the drag strip a few years ago the stock ratio, I think 2.41 was on national back order, so RPM used a 2.56 instead. I can't say I really feel much difference and I was able to change it in HP Tuners so the speedo works correct. If I had it to do over I'd probably go to somewhere around a 4.10 and see what happens.

The A10 wont physically fit in the C7 Corvette.

I am an old school guy from the sixties and always like the 3.73 to 4.10 differentials. This was back when the high gear was one to one in the transmission. It was always a "peppy" ride, but gas was cheap. With the several overdrive upper gears in all the C7's it may still relatively economical. The only caveat I can imagine is with the massive torque of the LT4, the first couple of gears are likely just going to be tire burners.

There really isnt a need for 3.73 or 4.10 rear gears in the C7 due to the 1st and 2nd gear ratios in the transmission.

You could run GS rear diff/gears. That's about the only thing for an A8.
