Great Balls of Fire !! caught fire on track !!

Granted mine is a GS with a manual but I did have one of the oil lines come loose in the back and start leaking oil. Tightening the connections is now something I do on an annual basis.
I also keep one of these in the drivers door pocket:

Based on your flames I don't think it would have helped but my concern was a stranded car off track and starting a grass fire. Anyhow glad your OK.

Damn that sucks but I am glad you are okay as well as track workers, fire fighters, etc. Good luck with the new car, it is beautiful.

Yeah they sure we’re nice. had a brand new set with new tires sitting in garage. so glad i didn’t put them on for this event. Apex Vs-5RS. fully forged. run about 3500 for the set. super light too.

i’m guessing the c8 addressed heat issues plus it’s NA. To be fair the C7Z overheats the faster and harder you are on it. intermediate level is much easier on the car. Rich at Abel is able to overheat a stock C7 ZR1 in 5 or so laps. most people prob couldn’t even overheat it.

thank you. Yea i did have track policy thankfully. 👍. had to leave wheels on it. did t have stock ones to replace them with for insurance. luckily i did not have my brand new set of same exact wheels and brand new tires on yet. we’re going on for Sat even. few days later. sold them for $4500 to another member. lost 1500 bit was a nice guy and needed the break.

That was a nice C7 but at least you or anyone else did not get harmed! Still sucks though - can never buy back the time put into it...

What was the response from the HPDE insurance carrier? I had a similar issue, lost the engine, flames came through the exhaust and burned the back of the car. Oil spraying from the hole in the block hit the exhaust and caught fire. HPDE insurance said it was not covered as it was not a defined “collision” in the policy but rather a mechanical failure. I guess I chose the wrong carrier ….

Now if they didn’t cover it your regular insurance should since it wasn’t an accident just a mechanical failure…..

Sorry for your loss. I know the feeling. Here’s a picture of my thoroughly burned ‘15 Z06 that was modified for track use. It was the victim of a motorhome storage facility fire last April. If you look closely, the BK harness bar faired better than the rest. You can’t see them, but the AP calipers and rotors held tough. I have not replaced it but am on a crusade for a C8Z06 that I never would have considered before the fire. Fire also got two sets of wheels with Pirelli scrubs, race seats, and alignment tools such as hub stands and string kit that I loaned to my good friend Bill Dearborn, so he’s suffering too. Good luck with your replacement and insurance dealings.

I am very excited about the new track weapon. 👍

Not why I Did it. didn’t increase top speeds. maybe with tune. i got it because my primary cars melted after about 2-3 months of track use. car had around 9k miles on it too. kept the factory replacements to put back on. no point melting and replacing them every few months. One more area the Corvette failed as far as hard and extended track use goes.
