Hello all,

I have revently purchased a used 2016 c7z and want to do an oil change. I did a search and it seems like the most recent threads are from 2018. Just wondering if anything has changed since then.

any idea what oil filter and oil i should use?

also if anybody has a good youtube video i can use would be great to.

im excited to be part of the corvette club!

I recently changed the oil in my 15 Z06 for the first time, not a hard job. I used Mobil 1 5-30w Dexos 2 from Walmart, about $20 for 5qts and a PF64 filter. I just used one jack and two jack stands, installed lifting puck on the driver's side rear position which raised the car plenty high enough to do the job. Then take out both drain plugs on the vehicle and remove the oil filter and lower it down to level position and let it drain a while to get all the old oil out of the engine and the tank, then just raise it back up and put both drain plugs back in and spin the new filter on. Put 9 quarts of oil in the oil tank and drive it until it gets up to normal operating temperature, then let it sit about 5 minutes and check the oil in the oil tank. It should need about another 1/2 quart to be full. I think they say 9.7 quarts to be exact. I actually went to Walmart and bought a plastic 18qt storage bin to drain the oil and drop the filter in, wasn't but about $5 and is low profile and works well when lowering the car to drain the oil and keeps from making a mess. Good Luck

Do you know if you need to open all the hatches when jacking your car up? I’m reading that it can crack your frame.

Oh my God

The folklore which has been perpetuated since the 1970s. LOL

Yes, open your doors, hood, and hatch. And don't forget to open the fuel door before jacking the car. This is crucial

I did not open doors or anything else on mine when I did the change and had no problem. Just make sure to install your lifting puck before jacking it up.

I do remember one thing happening and don't know why. Both times I raised and lowered my car, the alarm system went off and the horn started blowing, I had to cut it off with the fob, caused no problem and nothing was wrong but did startle me a bit.

I believe GM is now recommending us to use Mobil 1 0w-40 ESP engine oil and AC Delco PF64 filter for normal (non tracked) C7-Z06's.

You should always use the recommended oil that is stamped on the oil cap. My 2019 Z06 calls for Mobil 1 0W-40 DEXOS 2 with a ACDelco PF64... which I get from Speedway Motors online. Do a search on YouTube and you'll find plenty of videos on the subject.

My 15 Z06 has 5-30w Dexos on the cap, I would have preferred to have 5-40w but they did not have it when I bought my oil so I figured I would just use what it came out with. They did in later years go with 0-40w Dexos from the factory. I don't track my car, just local fun driving so I figured the 5-30w would be fine for me.

Here's one from a forum member. I like to fill my new filter with oil before I install it. I prefer to lower the car to get the last few ounces out. Also when removing the oil filter I like to let oil slowly drip down the side of filter before removing it completely. Otherwise it's more messy. Do not over tighten the drain bolts or new filter. Just did mine yesterday. Easy peasy.

I use a NAPA Platinum filter and Mobil 1 0W-40 ESP, but what you used is fine. The price of oil has jumped a bit since my last change.

Did my oil change yesterday and put too much oil in. The level is above the hash marks on the stick (darn old eyes!) . Should have asked my wife to look at the level before I added more after it was up to temp! I plan to get a cheap vacuum pump at Harbor Freight and suck some out of the system.

Do you know how much you put in? 9 3/4 quarts is perfect on mine every time. Or 8 oz left in the 10th quart. As I mentioned, I lower the car to level to get every last ounce out.

I'm going to take a half quart or so out, then check again when it's warmed up again.

Just open the drain plug and let a little seep out. No need for the pump.

Thought of that, but with my garage setup it's not real easy to jockey the car around and get it on ramps so I can access the plug.

I use redline full synthetic 10-40, tuner said it has a Zinc additive and I use a K&N Filter, First oil change I got the magnetic drain plugs, I figured why not, I dont drive car much so I usually do at the beginning of the season and again at the end, been ruuning that setup for past 4-5 years, if you car is stock I’d go with Mobil 1 oil & Filter.

I use Mobile 1 15W-50 in my Z06 year-round because I DD it and run it at the drag strip. I also use the a/c pretty much year-round and end-up sitting in drive throughs quite often especially in 90-degree ambient temps and higher. I'm sure a lower viscosity oil would be just fine, but it gives me a little more peace of mind knowing it's in there should I choose to drop the hammer at any time. And I use the PF 64 filter as well.
