How long will the A8 last above 900whp?
My car is getting some work done, and I'm expecting above 900 wheel. How long do you think the transmission will last?
Also who makes built ones and how much do they usually go for?
edit: meant to post this in Z06 section. Not sure if the transmission is the same between the models.

RPM Transmissions shows products for the M7 on their website, but nothing for the A8. Might want to contact them on this though.

I also like to have a bit of fun in daily driving and do some high rpm downshifts at lights. Do you think the transmission will need to be built for that or only for drag racing?

I don't know that anyone can outright answer that question, it depends on how you drive the car, how high you let your trans temp get, etc. I know I am being told at that level, it is a matter of time, but I know people around that level that have lasted quite awhile. Just expect it to be one of your weak links, at this point.

I'm in the same situation. We will see. I mainly drag race, so I ill probably find out fairly soon. Lol

It will wholly depend on how you use it.

Mines been over 900 for 3yrs and counting. 950 then 1200 and now at 1500 and still going. Mainly the sticky tracks are what gets you. Axles, stub axles trans clutches and input shaft could let go in any order. Tim King at TK Performance can get it built back up for you so don’t worry and let it eat!!

So as far as rebuilt upgraded trans TK is the go to place? What is everyone doing the stage 2 or 3? Does it pay to just do stage 3 so it’s bulletproof? And when doing rebuild are you guys using stock converter? I’m looking at Max build on stock blower around 900hp input.
Also anyone here using there transbrake? If so vids? Thoughts?

Wanted to jump in on this thread as I’m in a similar spot. My car has the Holley dominator and was controlling the spark, so it wasn’t pulling power during shifts. We are going back to the factory ecu controlling spark, but I would like to allow the Holley to control as much as possible. I’m just wondering if Tim or anyone else is getting the built a8s to live at 1300rwhp+. This would be a street and drag raced car.

My trans lasted a good while at 750whp. But the first time it made over 950whp it lasted just two street pulls before it grenaded.
I had my trans built and car tuned by Advanced Modern Performance in Dallas, TX. They did a hell of a job, and it shifts so much better and smoother than the previous shop that tuned it. Trans is rated for 1200hp now is what I was told. Definitely give them a look, they know their stuff!

I think a big part that is being overlooked in this discussion is TCM tune. If you strip out a bunch of Torque Management, the trans will definitely not last as long… I’ve been anywhere from stock to 927 WHP over the past 3.5 years with my A8 and it’s still fine, but I’m pretty conservative with the TCM tune. I’m sure I’ll be up for a rebuild at some point.

Well for an update to my thread my car made 930/757 and is handling the power no problem. I've done numerous pulls, I downshift like crazy at many lights, and I drive in manual mode most of the time. The transmission has shown no signs of trouble. I think having low torque(comparative to builds making similar hp) helps a bit.
