Default Slightly discolored exahust tips

All -

I have a 2019 with only 2600 miles. Gasoline has always been Shell V-Power Nitro.

I'm noticing that the outside two exhaust tips, not the two central ones, are getting a slightly bronze shade to them - despite polishing and buffing. The center two are noticeably more silver.

I have not been using any octane boosters, which I understand create an orange color.

Is this discoloring a symptom of any gasoline (given that these two get the most gases through them), or maybe just the additives in the Shell V Power?
And is there any way to decolor them to the neutral silver of the middle two tips?

Not a biggie. I have polished them to be as close as possible, and shiny, but you know how we know every little fault on our cars...

If you drive in Sport or Track often the outside tips will get dirty the most. It's normal.

I drive in Sport, and sometimes in Track. Never anything lower. That said, I have removed the exhaust fuse anyway - if that's the reason why S or T provide more discoloring?

In sport and Track exhaust often flows from the outside two tips because that is the path that bypasses the mufflers. In Tour mode it is always flowing though the muffler and the inside two tips unless over 4000 RPM. With the exhaust fuse pulled, the valves never close so no matter what, your exhaust will always flow through the outside two tips. Thus the reason they are the only ones that get dirty.

The change to a bronze shade is due to heat. Reinstall your fuse and run in Tour and the middle tips will start to discolor. You can use Blue Magic Polish to clean discoloration off the tips.

Use soap and water to remove the soot before using the polish. No need to use expensive polish to remove soot.

I think his problem is the outside of the pipe. I know mine turned a bronze color after a lot of track miles where the pipes got very hot. Inside was sooty while outside was bronze.

This is a picture of mine taken after 4 track seasons.

Notice the heat discoloration on the outside tips? The inside tips are just starting to show some discoloration. A lot of wide open throttle operation gets you this. I had about 5K track miles on the car when this picture was taken.

I had the same issue when I had the stock exhaust on my car. I had the stock exhaust professionally painted black so it would cover the discoloration and staining. I have since went to the Borla ATAK system with Black tips.

I painted my exhaust tips with heat resistant flat black paint five years ago (2016 Z) and problem solved. My Z is artic white with black stinger stripe, roof and mirrors. I think the black exhaust tips look great.

Hmmm. I hadn't thought of painting the tips. That may well solve the issue very satisfactorily - plus since soot is already black, they won't look immediately unclean after a few runs and no washes.

I have too also the mothers blue magic and will try that first - but longer term may paint black is good.

I never see soot anymore on the exhaust tips now and I have had the Borla for almost a year now. It's way easier to clean now too!
