I ran these back to back this morning while we had some decent temps/air. This was on my drag pack. Around 800 rwhp.

Previous best was 5.78 on stock wheels/DRs.

After being bummed about not getting into 4s on the track I easily did it on the street while on my way home. Twice in fact with traction control flashing.

M7 on Cup2s with no rev-match. Just normal shifting. My 60-90's are pretty good. Managed a 4.97 best that night but lost the video. Have another video of a run right before I pulled the 4.97 but ran out of road for testing to do anymore.

Thank you yeah I feel like I've lost my touch with shifting. Unfortunately I only got about 4 draggy runs in before I recently had to pull the engine back apart to swap in a new oil pump. I hope I can get one good shift in when I get everything back together. For sure lots of time lost in my shift. The autos just crush it with shifts.

Man I went out to do some dragy testing and street racing this weekend. Chasing those tenths on the dragy can be painful. For some reason I was stuck in the 5.50s all weekend and looking at my logs/vids, looks like my auto is getting pissy. Intermitten weird shifting stuff was hurting my time. My auto shift times are about .4 sec per shift. For some reason today my 3-4 was doing some studder shift BS and was costing me .53 sec. Granted it’s faster most stick shift gear changes but....pretty sloppy for an auto. I hope it’s not on it’s way out. 🙄

Tune or cold transmission? These autos seem pretty stout.

The tune has been solid in this thing. It shifted perfect for 2 years after I initially dialed in the shift points. Then recently it started shifting a little late on the 2-3 from a 55 mph roll and it would get into the soft cut limiter and close the throttle etc. So I lowered the shift mph by a couple, raised the rev limiters up a couple hundred. Then it seemed to be fine. So I made about 5-6 pulls this weekend, now my 3-4 shift is starting to happen later and it’s not clean.. it almost seems like it’s mechanically having a hard time completing the shift. You can see it in the logs big time. I’m gonna try tuning around it some but, I have a feeling the trans is already hurt....or getting there.

Did you have traction control ON? or if you did a recent TCM write, you probably need to drive it a little to allow the transmission to re-learn all shifts

TC was off.

I had reflashed it 2 days earlier but.... I’ve flashed it on the side of the road and at the track before and immediately made pulls and it responded. I’ve never messed with the trans adaptation resets or anything tho...

But any way I don’t want to muddy up the 60-130 thread here with my BS. Lol

Back to dragy pulls..

I've gotten my best time starting in 2nd gear lower than 60mph. I've tried a bunch of 3rd gear rolls starting at 50-55 but the 2nd gear pull is always .2 seconds faster for me. Problem is I don't always hook in second.

Thats exactly why I was asking. I think If I start in second I'm just gonna spin...are you hitting 130 in 3rd? Or are you shifting twice?

Start from zero mph using launch control. It will keep the shift to 2nd with almost no spinning and by the time you reach 60 mph you may be full power in 2nd.

I have a hard time with traction in second. Starting from a dig or using launch control doesn't help when you're not stock. I have found rolling into the throttle while in second gear gives me the best times if I hook at the top of 2nd gear.

Im gonna give this a try next time. I was hoping to be able to just do a 3rd into 4th pull, shifting twice hurts.

Two manual cars that are built and tuned by the same shop as mine had their redline raised when they got upgraded cams. They can hit 130 in 3rd. 2-3 seems faster for sure, but 3rd only from 50-130 still yields good times for them.
It's somewhat similar to my auto. 4th on a stock A8 ends at around 122-126, but after raising my redline it goes past 130. Stops me from worrying about the rpm drop from 5th and the gear shift affecting my times.

Here's some back to back dragy runs I did before my car decided to start smoking on me. Really getting addicted to these dragy runs. It's like trying to beat a highscore in a game. Love being able to hear my supercharger whine too! Hopefully I can get a stronger tune and get mid 4s consistently. Then I'll be happy.

We manuals definitely have the disadvantage here but I love the manual. I was consistently .2 seconds slower when starting in 3rd gear, however I was more consistent overall. The rolling into 2nd and then power shifting or flat foot shifting into 3rd around 6000 is challenging. I've found that if I shift at 6000 vs 6400-6500 that I can complete the shift faster which always gets me faster times. My best times are rolling into 2nd gear at 40mph and doing a lightning shift into 3rd at 6000 rpms, then take 3rd to about 6200 and shift equally as fast into 4th and then let it eat. I haven't tried pulling all the way to redline in 3rd to hit 130mph but when I look at my datalogs I'm at 6800 rpm at 128 mph and the speed shift lets the RPM's hit 7100 according to the logs. That time was slower than my best time where I shifted from 3 to 4 around 124mph. I don't really look at the RPM's when I make these pulls. I shift based on sound and where the engine should be shifted. I suppose if I had slightly taller tire I wouldn't have to shift into 4th at all to hit 130.

One thing I think us manuals have is the advantage in the 100-150 race, but no one draggy's those numbers lol.
