Z06 and Grand Sport question
Hi,
This is not about compering all out track performance. My question is:
Can you really "feel" the difference big time between the Z06 and the Grand Sport in a daily driving basis type of scenario?
Much Obliged

YES - for perspective, I am an old fart and test drove GS and bought the Z06 without a test drive. Now that I have owned the Z06 for 6 months and 3,300 miles, just know You can drive the Z06 like a GS but when you need the power, hold on. Don't worry about the power, it is just on demand vs. not having it at all. WOT is a big difference but it can all be controlled as you learn the car. IMHO no comparison for the money. It's not that the GS is slow , the Z06 is just way faster and power from low to high is the only way I can explain it. You'll have to test drive one if you are on the fence. I had absolutely no doubt, especially closer in price. I'm loving my Z06

That depends entirely on whether you will ever have the urge to use more than 460 horsepower in your street driving.

Lots of differences. Great fun on on-ramps and blind spots. Much safer passing, especially on two lane road as the exposure time is much less. Much easier and safer to merge into and thru traffic on major highways.

Yes, without question. I owned a C6 GS, which I loved. Test drove a C7 GS; it's a fine car. Then I test drove a Z06. Case closed. Not even a decision.
To me, it's the low-end torque that really makes the difference, and makes it fun to drive even if it's just around town.

If you like sound a fury the Z06 is the only way to go. I had a 14 stingray with 460 HP and it was fun, but if you like fast and furious acceleration and incredible sound then the Z is the car. If you are worried about the power take the Ron Fellows course it is a lot of fun and you will learn a lot. If you get one and your dealer has the equipment ask them to check the alignment for you before you leave the lot. It is an awesome car and for my money the best high performance sport car built.

Yes there is huge difference. The biggest difference is near additional 200 horsepower. It pulls so much harder.

As mentioned by others, the cars are exactly the same. With that said, the power and torque of the Z06 is significant. I drive a Z06 and my wife just got a GS. In town driving with traffic is much the same in either car. On the road or freeway the Z06 is simply unbelievable. We were on a Fla trip and my wife was driving my Z. A pickup truck was driving to slow and jamming up traffic. I told my wife to get the h... around that fellow or we were going to get run over. She floored the Z and we blew by the truck. She looked at me with wide open eyes and said, this thing is addictive. We got almost 28 MPg on the trip and had a blast at Amelia Island. Get the Z. You will never regret extra juice when you want it.

If money isn't the end all be all for you. Meaning a Z06 isn't breaking the bank. How do you not have that power in reserve?
if I wasn't addicted to the torque a base or he vert would've been fine for me..
but then again. A Z06 Vert is finer lol

Two very different cars except when on static display - yes from start to stop they feel different. I've owned GS's and have my Z06. Love my GS for touring long rides and a few minor upgrades some power on demand. The Z06 is a thrilling new car. I can't compare to the GS at all. I few upgrades on the Z06 and pushing over 800 HP and a ton of torque the GS just can't deliver.
The old benefit of a GS was it came in convertible. Now the Z06 does too. If you want a very fun spirited car the GS is GREAT. If you want a touch of strong on demand power and muscle the Z06 should be looked at.

If your not into very strong acceleration, there is no need to buy the ZO6. I know lots of people who will buy these and never use the power. That's why Chevy came out with the Grandsport.

I had a 17 GS and now 18 Z06. You can feel the difference, but to answer your specific question. I don't feel the difference "big time" for daily driving. For example, there is short acceleration run I do with all my cars as a daily test of performance. Even the truck. I round a corner go full throttle, go neutral throttle over the RR tracks, back to full throttle and see what speed I am at on the next hump. The hump is fun because sometimes the cars will get squirrelly at the top, but you don't let off throttle. In the GS I hit 100-105. In the Z06 I hit 105-110. The Z is louder when on the throttle, but I think that gives a false feeling of speed and muscle. I like the Z better, but they are both pretty good.

Drifting
The Z has ~40% more torque, so yes it will "feel" significantly different off idle. However, if you're rowing through the gears at minimal RPMs then I guess not so much difference...but who the hell does that in a vette?
my buddy has a 3LT Z51 w/mag that I've spent a lot of time behind the wheel before my purchase and I upgraded from a 2004 Z that I owned from new for 12.5 years ... just my perspective.
The base motor is outstanding, however the Z is epic.

Heel & Toe
I'm an old fart (73) so my opinion may be a little suspect. However, both cars can exceed the speed limit in short order, but owning a Z06 is just a little more special. Even if you never use the extra 200HP it's nice to know you got it. I would also add that a convertible makes the car even more special and more fun to drive.
