New Z06 Feels flat

New Z06 Feels flat
I just purchased my 4th C7 last night and brought home a new 17' Z06. My first impression was this car is making no where near 650hp, motor feels a little flat, doesn't feel much quicker than one of my Z51s.
Originally I was thinking it could be the difference in gearing as I kept noticing every time I looked at the speedo I was doing 7-10mph faster than what it felt like in my other C7s.
The other thing I was thinking is the dealer put 87 octane in the car. When I arrived at the dealership that car only had 8 mlles on it but already had a full tank of gas. The dealership was surprised it had a full tank of gas since it hadn't really moved since it came off the truck.
I only put 50 miles on it yesterday and the engine runs smooth it just doesn't put you in the seat like I would expect 650hp/tq to. I'll keep an eye on it, hopefully it gets better with mileage and maybe it just has a ton of timing retard from the wrong octane.
One other thing, I get this feeling that the car continues to lunge forward after lifting off the throttle from hard acceleration. Is this normal? Almost like the engine braking characteristics are completely different from the LT1 ...

Yeah, it does that. At least mine does. I don't care for that much either.

Can't imagine how much timing and power is being pulled with 87 octane. Mine pulls timing with 93 octane. Had to start running Boostang and Torco just to get full timing.

My car has been screaming fast since day one. You may have 87 octane in it and that would kill the performance. If not if you may have a problem on your hands. Because these cars scream.

Pulling timing due to low octane. These Z06's are significantly faster than the base Corvette. It's about 200 more horsepower. You really can't put your foot into it until it's broken in, so a fair assessment of it's power would have to take place after at least 500-1500 miles.

When in doubt, run it in the quarter and get a MPH. You can also do a 0-60 run (should be around 3.4 on the average roadway if it doesn't spin).
If you're not spinning and you're closer to 4 seconds, then something is wrong. The fuel can't be helping, that's for sure.

Got 1300 miles on my new 2017 Z06. Traded in a 2016 Z51 Stingray. Like night and day performance. So, something must definitely be wrong with your Z.

Someone put gas in that car as they are shipped from Bowling Green with only a couple of gallons of gas. If your dealer didn't fill the tank, then who did?
Did your dealer get the car from another dealer, instead of directly from Bowling Green?

Until it has 500 miles, power management pulls power.
That's debatable.

The pre-500 mile operational limits are recommendations and NOT part of the programming. Proper break-in should be done but the powertrain will provide about 98% of its ultimately available performance from mile 1, the small difference is due to the learning nature of the powertrain controllers and the fact that some break in truly is required for proper performance. But power is not artificially limited by the engine or transmission controllers.
If you instantly go to full throttle on a properly performing Z06 and don't notice the difference between it and the LT1 equipped variants either the Z isn't running right or the user is on some serious drugs Hopefully it is just a dumbass at the dealership put low octane fuel in the Z and if you suspect that definitely don't beat on it until you start getting enough 93 or better mixed into that tank. If you suspect 87 octane look upon this as your opportunity to break it in by the book, no high RPM operation and no high throttle operation.

WRONG!
There is no power management with the LT4. The car comes directly from BG with full boost.
As mentioned; add some TORCO and top off with 93. After that, if you still have issues, have the S/C checked. It may need bleeding.

I want to add to the discussion:
If the car has 87 octane in it there should be noticeable pinging from the engine when accelerating in an upper gear. Do you experience that OP?
The '17 cars require 93 and the OM states significant power reduction with lower octane fuels and engine damage may occur.
Drive carefully!

Are you sure it's getting into boost? I'd check the boost gauge and make sure it you are. Could be a problem somewhere. Other than that, your probably on a low octane table if running 87, and I probably would stay off the throttle until you can get a full tank of 91, or better yet 93 octane in the tank

No, the engine management system will take care of that before audible pinging is heard. There will just be a reduction in power.
