C6 Z06 to a C7 Z06 any downside??
I have a 2009 C6 Z06 and am getting closer to ordering a new Z06.
Are there any downsides?
I am expecting the car to be better all around. Is this true?
What about road noise on long trips??
Thanks!!

I went from a 2008 Z06 to a 2016 Z06, these new cars are incredible, hands down an awesome car.

Like Tadge said it makes the C6 platform obsolete. I'd have to agree having owed both. It's better in every regard and you don't have to worry about the engine blowing up on you! Simply an amazing car.

I found the road noise to be about the same for the C7 Z06 convertible as is for the 2013 427 (basically a Z06---all were convertibles)----meaning it was OK.
Road noise in the our 2015 Z06 coupe was BAD. We thought it was much worse than in our 2008 Z06. The 427 with the roof down was quieter. Excluding driving below 35 mph or so around the neighborhood, we found it very hard to carry on a conversation. To hear the radio it had to be cranked way up, which further inhibited any conversation.
Solution---I had one of those Crazy Cowboy sound kits installed by a local body shop. Like night and day! I also thru a Block-it pad on top of that----not sure if the latter made an incremental improvement or not.
Crazy Cowboy kit (found here on the Forum) works GREAT! Took the body shop some 6-8 hours to install. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
My only caveats about the C7 Z06's-----------here in New England it is a real seasonal car---in the garage from November thru March because they DO NOT make all season tires for these cars...........OEM tires prone to cracking if driven on in our winter temps; and you will need after market splash guards to prevent the road rash on the sides (e.g., Apsis or O'reilly guards along with side skirts----same as with the C6 Z06's).
Otherwise---love the car. Best corvette I ever owned.

AZDANZ06 makes an excellent point............it has been quite awhile since we owned our 2008, and it is very possible our memories regarding the sound aren't as accurate as we think. And with the 2008 we didn't have anything to compare it to-----------having said that, we 'think' the interior road noise with 2015 Z06 coupe (before the Crazy Cowboy kit install) was louder than in the 2008.
And we both feel the Crazy Cowboy kit made the car VERY enjoyable versus at one point we were thinking we made a mistake buying it because of the noise in the front cabin----we basically couldn't carry on a conversation and had to strain to hear one another, and, especially on the highway, the radio had to be really cranked up.

Never had a C6Z but i had a GS.
Everything about the C7, and especially the Z is an upgrade to the C6. This is NOT to bash the C6 but this is the innovation and the evolution of cars. And that's how generations work. They get better with each generation.
And i assume the C8 will be even better than the C7.
But the refinement and technology, even the ride quality of the C7Z is way ahead of the C6Z.
Then to top off with all the upgrades and power, the looks and the tech etc, now you have EVERYONE stopping and staring at your car.
Before it was just kids, or other car guys. Now it's grandmothers, mothers, rich kids in daddy's bmw, milfs, college girls etc etc.
I mean just the other day i had 2 girls in a 435I honk at me while they were at a light and i was turning right past them.
People just love the C7 lol

There is zero downside.. I owned my 06Z for 7 years. Towards the end I found myself RARELY driving the car because of so many factors. In NJ the traffic is brutal in the summer so i would OPT to take my SRT to the shore. The c7z i opted for the a8 because of this. Also the sound system was terrible and blah interior. The c7 provides so many more creature comforts. SDcard, ipod. satelite radio ( the sound quality on satelite on the c6z was awful) Cooled seats, the Automatic, Top comes off. better seats etc!! I can go on forever.

I was very happy with my 08Z. I am even happier with my 16Z.

Road noise is probably about the same. My ZR has a full sound deadening kit and it is quieter in the rear than my wife new 2017 GS. Zr has cups and the GS has PS4's. Other than that the C7 is a big leap forward.

I went from an 08Z 3LZ car to a 15 3LZ. Road noise in the 15 is less but still there. I had purchased the Z07 option since I track my cars so the car came with Cup2s on it. Despite what people say you can drive those tires in temps down into the high 20s with no issue (I have done it many times). The standard Z06 MPSS tires don't have the issues with tread cracking so they can be driven in lower temps. I drove my 08Z 167 miles to the dealer traded it in for the 15 and drove the 15 back. The 15 definitely had less road noise. It poured rain with temps in the mid 40s to and from the dealer. The Cup2 tires were able to handle 65 to 75 mph speeds easily in those conditions. I put the selector in Weather mode just to be sure.
My first track day had temps in the high 40s to mid 50s with a fairly heavy rain coming down. I ran the Cup2s and the car did very well getting around VIR in the rain in the Track setting with Wet mode selected.
If it matters to you the biggest downside to the car is the much lower gas mileage achieved. Forget about those highway trips in cruise at 70 mph cracking off 30 mpg. The C7Z gets about 24 mpg. At the track it passes everything except the gas pump.
