Got a message on our answering machine by accident from my dealer.
It seems my wife has been talking to our dealer about getting a 2017 Z06 for my son and I for Christmas. The message said that they think she should look at a 2017 ZL1 instead because I already have a 2016 Z06. I'm not sure what the heck to think about all of this. My question is should I call the dealer and see what she is up to or should I just let things go and act like I didn't hear the message??? I really don't want another Z06 because I want to wait for the ZR1 to come out. I do really like the new ZL1's and so does my son. She says the car is going to be for both of us but he has a Dodge Dart GT that he will keep driving and sometimes drive whatever she decides to surprise us with.

I'm a car guy and I have been married a long time. Do not interfere with what she is doing, hurt feelings will result...
Just my .02
Oh, and buy her some flowers, just cause...

I think you should sit down and talk to your wife. A surprise is nice and all, but some things, like new cars and pets, are too much of a commitment for a surprise.
Plus, it sounds like you'd like something different than what she's planning.
Better to hurt her feeling a -little- bit today than a lot after Christmas. Unless you think it's already a done deal, I guess.
I'd talk it out, 'surprise' gift or not. Be nice, I'm sure it means a lot to her, but redirect her towards what you want I guess!
Edit: My post and the one above appeared at the same time and contradict one another, so now you have both sides of the coin :-)

Call the dealer discretely and tell them to tell your wife that you have been inquiring about the 2018 ZR1 which will be announced soon and its better to wait a little and give you something that you really want.
Oh, and delete the message on the answering machine.

I would definitely talk to her... Maybe it's just a misunderstanding.

I might do it a different way, altho I do think involving the dealer to do your work for you is a good idea. But then it tends to "obligate you" to buying your next Vette from them---unless that's where you were planning to go.
I'd have a conversation w. your wife to go something like this: "I don't want to surprise you with this, but next year, I'm going to start looking into the new Vette, a ZR1---what do you think of that one, dear?" " I know it's not out yet, but everything I see/read is that it far outweighs my car and I could trade mine and move on up!" "I figure this is a big one---cost-wise---and I just want to make sure you're on board with it."

My wife knows better than to buy me a car because she knows how particular I am on everything.

My wife and I have been married 28 years. She knows not to surprise me with a car purchase and I know not to surprise her with jewelry. As spearfish stated, we're both too particular about what we like.

90,000 is a pretty extravagant christmas gift. Those kind of expenditures are made jointly in my home. I would tell her what you know and decide together what you should buy. You have a great wife.
