Descreen Factory Airbox W/ drop in K&N
Im just curious. Has anyone descreen their factory air box and install a K&N filter and have a good results ?
I think all of the aftermarket intake does not have a screen on them and Im curious if this will set up will do the trick.

I wondered about this as well. I am thinking about the OEM placement green filter. Hopefully someone will chime in and share the experience with this mod...

Well I have a 650IX with two air boxes. I took the carbon filters (extra pollution filters) out never to be returned back in. Replaced the OEM regular filters, put K&N filters in....I could feel the difference right away. Throttle response, seat of the pants was very good. I threw an engine light for while then it went away.

I'm slowly working on testing some options here. The first option would be to mold a new filter that better lines up with the factory MAF housing. The ones out now greatly limit flow. The second option is a CNC adapter that attaches to the factory MAF housing allowing a larger filter to be installed. It's been slow going with routine business and the holiday but progress is being made. But hope to have some interesting stuff to share soon.
And yes, I took a K&N filter and sanded the crap out of it for a proof of concept dyno and flow testing.

It looks like you removed the screen, did you test for results on that?

And which flows the best: Green 7225, K&N E-0665 or S&B 66-5013? The K&N appears to have a lot of rubber molding at both ends that could reduce the flow area. The Green and S&B do not or very little.
