First 2017 Z06 in town - Tried to drive it, but...
So I'm in talks with my local dealership to get in to a Z06. They told me they got their first 17 Z06 in and that I could test drive it. I drive up there and get a look at the car and it looks great. Yellow not my color but I wanted to test drive it to see if a Z06 is worth the extra 25k I'd be on the hook for.
The guy comes out and says hey nevermind you can't drive it unless you buy it right now because some GM at a different dealership might buy it for himself but he wants 0 miles on it. That pissed me off. Then he tries getting me in to a Grand Sport. Idk how I feel about it. An Admiral Blue GS with the Z07 packages looks awesome and I bet it tracks like a mother but I can't imagine getting out of my 1LT Z51 for a GS. Need that super charger.
EIther way, here are some pics. Enjoy.

Definitely wait for another z to be available.
I almost bought a gs, but thank God I drove home in a z.

I have a hard time imagining trading in and taking a $5k+ loss my pretty sweet and affordable 16 1LT Z51 for a $10k more expensive GS thats wider and has a more aero. If I'm going to get rid of a new Corvette, its going to be for a Z...I think...IDK.

no need to drive it imo. it's exactly what you think it's going to be. took mine off dealer lot onto trailer and came home. have 130 miles on it 2 days old. it's a monster, a supercar. exactly what you think it is lol

Still tons of them left with no miles and they're selling it for basically pennies.

You acknowledged that yellow is not your color, and appear to have reservations about the purchase. If a test drive is critical to you, and you can't readily find a '17 nearby, then just test drive a '15 or '16 Z06.
Improved cooling is essentially the only change, which you certainly wouldn't be able to assess any discernible difference on a test drive. A '15 or '16 should give you a pretty good idea of "worth."
Not sure if Coggin is a high volume dealership, but most of the larger forum dealerships will let you test drive a '17, which should start trickling into their inventories soon.
I purchased my Z sight-unseen and had it shipped, but certainly understand those who insist on a test drive. GL.

Thisss. Contacted a few dealers on CarGurus but the one above would be ideal for me. Hoping I could get them down some more on something like this. There are Z06s that are 20k off! (like 95k MSRP going for 75k!). I'll keep you guys posted.

That's a nice Z, but they need to take another $7-9k off that price, as market dictates, and there are still a decent amount of 16' Z's floating around with deep discounts.
What color and options are you interested in on a 16? Are you willing to do a remote buy and having it shipped? I can look around and see what I find. I know you wanted DSOM, but I haven't seen one around, and I've looked the country over while locating my Z.
Anyways, good luck and I'm rooting for you to find that dream Z06 of yours!!!

Good advice by skipper. Be patient and not rash, or you will regret it. I am SOOOOO glad I was patient and found what I wanted. It's worth the wait; the car is a ROCKET!
Good Luck!

That's an awesome color too. Any color will be awesome just don't settle on one just to get it. There's many out there so be patient.
If you want red, wait for red. Want blue wait for blue etc.

Dealers will always want you to come in to the dealership whether they had intentions of letting you test dive it or not. People make emotional decisions when they see something in person as opposed to something on a website. Its a tactic. They knew from the beginning they were not gonna let you test drive it. They just wanted you to drive there. They were hoping you were gonna just say, "F'it, I'll take it" Anyway, dont forget to look on ebay, cars.com, autotrader.com. There are tons for sale.

PLEASE!!! Trust me. Don't settle. A Z06 is what you want, and nothing else will quench that desire.

I didn't test drive my last four Corvettes, two of which I ordered.
I knew I wanted them and if there was anything wrong (there wasn't), warranty would cover it.
As you said, yellow isn't your color so go find one you want and buy it! You'll love the Z06, I love my Z06/Z07 and never smiled like I do today when I had my 2014 Z51.

Having been through this buying experience, I'd just encourage them to let you start the engine and rev it a big. The driving experience is 1) as you think it will be (awesome) and 2) not going to feel too different from your Z51 unless you've pegged the throttle to the floor.
Revving the engine in track mode will let you hear the difference from an LT1..it's not subtle and your heart will flutter.

Is that 8k worth it? Hell yes!

I don't believe you will be able to determine this from a local test drive unless you plan on opening it up, breaking the local speed limits, and ignoring the new car break in guidelines. This could be why many dealers don't want people test driving these cars.
