Default Z06 & car washes

When I was in the service department of a Chevy dealership a few days ago one of the service writers told me that some car washes could damage my Z06 due to the very wide tires. He wasn't talking about damaging the finish.

Please let me know if you have successfully run your Z06 through a car wash without damage.

Thanks for your advice in advance!

I wouldn't do anything with a brush and the rest don't clean road film so.
You are left with a hand wash in the drive or garage if you have a floor drain.

Or What I do a lot is go to the quarter wash that takes a few bucks to start.. Yeah the one with the hand spray wand..
the best car wash for you car.

You simply carry a micro wash mitt and absorber.

Wash the car once with the power washer. Leaving your soppy wet soapy mitt on the front window.

Then on the wet car mop the whole car with the soapy soppy mitt working top sides
then low. The rewash with the power washer and dry.
Use eagle 1 wheel spray then rinse the wheels.

I clean under the car and the engine underhood and door jams. A perfect 10 wash.

What WAS he talking about then? Wheels are the only think I can think of....and yes, most auto car washes with tracks will destroy those wheels, as the tracks are not wide enough to handle them.

I am concerned about using the spray washes. The water is recycled in the car washes so how pure is it without having contaminants in the water that you are spraying on your car and the possibilities of it scratching your car.

The biggest problem with the spray type car washes is the pressure that they spray with. It cuts and removes wax and is just too strong on the paint.
And, yes, the service writer was talking about damaging the wheels and that they are too wide for most places. Any way you look at it a hand was by someone with experience is the best.

My car has been through a car wash over 100 times. No scratches no swirls. I do however have some road rash on the "inside only" of my driver rear wheel. Which only happen after I installed the Conti tires. Catches on the inside rail.

Using a drive-thru washer on a car?!?
I wouldn't even do that to my mother-in-laws Toyota!

I've had a crew take care of my Vettes for years...

Never ever does the Vette or the Caddy see a car wash. In my driveway with the 2 bucket method, only. Paul

I hand wash. I only use Evian bottled water to wash my car. I use multiple buckets, about six wash mits, specially formulated soap, dry it with a leaf blower then I pluck the feathers off a wild duck to give it a final dusting.

I would not send my Z06 thru an automatic car wash. The car wash near the NCM has 11" rails, and they were just right for my 315 tires on my C4.

My auto car wash has hand washed it for me once when I was too busy.
Other than that, with the full wrap, I just hose it down, wipe dry and I'm done.
If I feel like it, I use a vinyl spray protectant but that's only once a month.

My current Z I only waterless wash.

My old Z I drove through the soft brush car wash dozens of times.

Surprisingly, even though Velocity Yellow likely doesn't show much, it didn't pick up swirl marks and so on. I wouldn't do it to a black car, but silver, yellow, etc.. seems to work well and modern clearcoats are quite hard.
