Another roll race
I almost feel embarrassed to post another roll race thread so soon after my previous encounter with the Hellcat.
I am sure the naysayers will post their comments about street racing. As long as some others appreciate the post, I am OK.
Sunday, I took a leisurely drive toward a country road not to far from home. There was a Shelby 500, about a 2014 or 2015, in front of me at a light. I followed him along my route. He had loud exhaust and some personalized license plate indicating he had a fast car.
As we proceeded toward my planned route, he pulled over to let me pass. Since he accelerated right on my ***, I did the same to get away from him. Once the country road split into a passing lane, I slowed down to let him go around. When he got along side me, he waited and then starting honking his horn. I know what this means, and it was all clear ahead, so with the third honk, I nailed it with the trans in drive.
He got a slight jump on me and it took a hundred or so milliseconds for the trans to shift down. We raced from 30 to 110 and I got him by about a car length.
In my rear view mirror, I saw him turn around and head home with his tail between his legs.
These Shelby 500's are very quick from a roll. I think they have about 660 hp and are not much heavier than the Z. From tests, they do not launch very well, which is probably why he wanted to start from 30 mph.
This was a relatively safe roll race, on a country road with no cars coming and a 2 lane passing lane. My radar detector again was not triggered and it was a clear day at about 52 degrees in SoCal.
I don't seek out these races; it just that 2 have happened recently. These are the only street challenges I have had in the 9 months I have had the Z.
I do race it at the drags, which I have done 5 times, and am anxiously awaiting the 2016 season start. I plan on going to Famosa and Fontana and maybe up to Sonoma while the temps are still low in CA. I also RR the Z at Willow Springs and Spring Mountain.
I hope that not too many members are offended by a Z06 owner that appreciates driving his car as it was designed.
Note: I seldom wax it!

Very cool. My sentiments exactly. Why have a car like this if you can't/won't "exercise" it every now and then.
Hey Conmax I used to live in Sand Canyon years ago. Great area. Just brought my Silver Z convertible to So Ca btw. Maybe we'll cross paths somewhere.

You can find out how well you and your car performs against many other high performance cars at an HPDE event. You don't need to race anybody all you have to do is point them by and then try and keep up with them if you can.

If you're going to do so much roll racing, you might as well learn how to do the start with an auto.
Never start in Drive. The trans takes too long to respond
Put it in the Manual position and paddle to the best gear for the take off speed. As soon as you hit it wide open, shift up into Auto. The shifts will then be done by the trans right on time. Practice moving the shifter from M to D until you can do it quickly.
There you go, no more giving everyone the jump on you.

Good story
I know that road, and is one of those roads not maintained by the county. So technically you were off-road.
Perhaps you didn't see the sign.

Drifting
If I raced every Mustang that's ever challenged me in a Corvette over the last 15 years, I would probably be either dead or still in jail. It's tough but I ignore them and any others including diesel trucks!

Street racing is a crime and innocent people die, meaning the wives and kids of other people just trying to get home from basketball practice.
You didn't invent the car, you didn't design the car, you didn't build the engine. Win or lose you couldn't even launch the car, you had to do it from a roll. You pushed a pedal. Wow.
I just pray people failing the Darwin test do it into a pole and not a person.
I didn't watch the video (I mean who cares? Oooohhh, one car pulls away from another at a 2 mile per hour differential, how abso-frickin-lutely amazing!) so I don't actually know where you did it. Maybe it was a relatively less dangerous locale, I have no idea.
