Short roll race Hellcat
While driving on hwy 118 toward Simi Valley, I saw a red Dodge come up in the commute lane. I was in the next lane at the time and when he got close enough to recognize that I had a Z06, he quickly moved over 2 lanes and came along side me. It was pretty obvious that this was a young Hellcat owner looking for a race.
In the 8 months since I have owned my Z06/7 with an A8, I have not raced anyone on the street, preferring the drag strip. I have taken it 4 times to the close by SoCal strips and run a best of 11.04 @ 126mph. Since then, I have installed a Halltech CAI, which should add some power.
When this guy got along side me, he slowed some and really wanted me to race. With no cops detected on my Radar, I nailed it at about 60. I think I got a slight jump on him and he didn't gain b4 slowing for traffic.
He then moved back to the commute lane (not legal with only the driver) and wanted to race again. This time he got a slight jump on me and I wasn't closing any ground b4 slowing for traffic.
Both these runs were from about 60-100 and the cars seemed about equal. I have no doubt that the Z is faster in the 1/4 with better traction. In a roll race, these Hellcats are at least a match for the Z despite weighing about 1k lbs more.
No videos, this wasn't planned, and is not something I would seek out.
I can somewhat rationalize doing this on the freeway as being almost the same as I do almost every time I drive the Z on a freeway. Other than risking a nasty ticket, I don't think it is all that dangerous to accelerate your car from about 60- 100 if there is little traffic each time you drive it. After all, isn't that part of the reason we bought a Z?

Just an FYI, in California street racing is a Felony! Had a co-worker find this out recently.

I learned the hard way
I had multiple run-ins with law 35 plus years ago, street racing. I ended up racing IHRA and went to work for my attorney and ended up owning his law practice. Sure paid off; I have seven whips now.

We still have fun out there in our safe areas and I like testing out items i sell for the z06 at these events as well as on the track. I got into the union for the city of san francisco almost 20 years ago and it paid off for me too. Congrats on your practice.

The Problem is this guys C7 Z06, has the Z07 package, which is not good in drag racing or racing all out on the freeway, to much down force, kills top end speed.. beside all of that , it is not worth going to jail street racing .... do it at the track ..

I've owned both....
Hellcst makes 800 crank HP... Mine made 686whp.
The intake you have with the out a tune may help a little. Your results seem on par.
They both are very strong cars and the Hellcat once moving pulls hard up top. He stage 3 Aero will also hurt you on the highway.
Be safe out there...

YES--this is why the splitter and the bill are being removed. Am doing extensive engine modifications and do not need that bling on my car to slow it down.

Safety Car
I raced a stock auto Hellcat with my M7 with Z07 package (but on MPSS tires) and Halltech CKNZ. Three races, one from 45 mph, one from 60 mph, and from a standing start, lifting by 90 ish. I won all three. From a dig he spun worse than me, by the top of second gear I had him by three + cars.
I now have the 9% pulley and Halltech, making 654/690 SAE and raced him again, this time at the drag strip, beat him by .5 - .7 sec every time.

Autoclub Dragway in Fontana. 2016 Street Legal races and test and tune schedule should be out shortly. Cheapest day of fun you can have.

Thanks for the felony refresher! I never knew that.
I have run at both Famosa and Fontana. Lowest DA was 3400.
I have tried racing w/w/o the rear stage 3 center section. Made no measurable difference. The 11.04 run was with the rear splitter in place. In a roll race from 60-90 mph, the aero does not affect the acceleration.
One of the reasons I moved to Simi years ago, was the high percentage of LAPD residents. Several are neighbors and one has gone to the drags and HPDE events with me. They don't, however patrol the 118 outside of town. That's the job of the CHP.
As stated, the Z06 is faster at the drags, but it will have trouble in most roll races. I have no idea if the kid had a stock Hellcat, just that he was eager.
