Just wanted to say. You the man! I daily drive my Z06 but living in FL I get to avoid the snow. So many of these cars are garage queens that get traded in with low miles. My dealer said he regularly gets Corvettes trailered to them for service. (Seriously WTH is that?)

To see someone plan on enjoying the drive is kick butt.

Does anyone know or see what the tread wear rating number is on these tires? I see all the other specs, but couldn't find that. And yes I know that there isn't a definitive guide on those, but it gives some idea of how long they will last and/or how soft or hard the durometer of the tread is.

they don't put wear ratings on winter tires however I would estimate the wear rating to be about 250, so it's a little less than the super sports but better than the cup2s

After 4200 miles, the car has been a beast, but one thing has been missing: I drive it every day so I needed a winter tire option...

Thanks to the forum for advice and a couple forum vendors I was able to find the following, which I had installed today since it is getting near freezing at night:

OEM FACTORY GM CENTENNIAL CUP CORVETTE WHEELS SATIN BLACK 19/20
Pirelli Sotto Zero 3
275/35-19 fronts
305/30-20 rears

I'm waiting on the snow and plan to drive it all winter, the only "issue" so far is it is super easy to light up these soft tires otherwise it handles great.

I want to thank phantasms for the inspiration. I'll update this thread when I get it out in some snow

question

what kind and how bad are your winters in reno?

Thanks to the folks blazing the trail ahead of us newbies... I placed an order for the Sottozero 3s mentioned in the OP Monday, they were at the tire shop by tuesday (didn't expect them THAT fast). Now I just need to find some time to get out there for the swap.

If you can, I recommend a second set of rims then you can leave the summer tires on a set of rims and swap them without remounting.

Way ahead of you, Ed The black rims I have on now will become my winter rims, and this gives me a few months to decide what color/style I want for my summer rims. I'll be driving to the tire shop (actually a local wheel shop that comes highly recommended... their main business started with rim repair) for the swap after I leave work today. Need the wife to meet me in the grocery getter so I can get the summer tires back home. I'll drag them back out once I've decided upon the summer rims.

Thank you for posting this. I just took delivery of my GS and the dealer did not have any recommendation for winter tires.....nearly did not buy the car because of this. Read this post, bought the car and the Pirellis, got them mounted today and can now drive in the cold weather.

Coincidently I swapped out my Michelin Super Sports to the
winter tires today and just love how the car feels with them. I carry a small electric pump and a patch kit. They're not run flats and I've actually used the pump once and it enabled me get to a place where they could patch the tire.

More power to you man!
I can't fathom driving my Z06 in Minneapolis winters of snow, salt and ice.

Any thoughts on all weather tires for a Z06 living in Washington State. Not much snow but lots of rain. Thanks

To me its all about the temperature you want to drive the car in. Our summer tires are simply not designed to run in temps under a certain point....hence my swop to winter tires. I can enjoy the car for more days in the colder months (live in the NE), and can actually use the heated seats.... It's not about plowing through snow and ice.........

Sits too low for the drifts in Green Bay. I wouldn't be able to get it in my driveway no matter what tires I had on it. You'd spend more time shoveling than driving.

A vast majority of today's cars are mass produced in numbers that preclude them from ever achieving "collector car" status so, get out there and enjoy them for what they are.
I bought my Z new August 15th and I already have over 6000 miles on her. I bought her to drive her, not save the miles for someone else to enjoy.

That is impressive!!! I have Contis DWS in Z51 sizes that I am too cheap to give up and I run them on my Z. With the crazy mild Ohio winters, I just zinked myself for this year, I never ran the Z in too much snow last winter. Plus last year there where few other wheel tire combos out there.

BUT I had the Z51 in plenty of snow in 13 and 14 and you would be shocked at how well it grips the road. Good weather tires and all the nannies make the car easy to drive. No you won't clear a drift or a foot of snow but I can go to work when they forcast a few inches during the day.

I love the car I want to drive it as much as possible. I trade frequently so salt is not an issue. You should not save your women for the next guy nor your car!
