Opinion: I think it's potentially going to get worse with new cars now available in lots with discounts and the heating issues now having become very well known in even casual car buyers.

It sucks that one issue can taint a car that is otherwise such a great car. It could have been simply a "car to rule them all"...
I would think that you would have a similar loss on ANY high-end trade-in after a year. It would be an easy thing to check, of course. Trade in value is not the same as resale value.

I have an 2014 AMG with 3k miles, for which I paid 93k. Dealer offered me 60.

Most new cars take a serious hit the first year.

It definitely was not a hard ride at all as some have seemed to experience.

The hard part to live with on the Viper is the visibility and difficult access/egress on a day to day focus. The Z06 is definitely more 'friendly' in that respect. Plus, I found the C7Z to be quieter in the cabin most likely due to the Viper's side exhaust.

Power-wise, I would say they both felt comparable but the extra weight of the C7Z was somewhat noticeable to me. Much better visibility our of the C7Z. MUCH better.

And yes, the Gen V Viper does look a LOT better in person.
IMO the paint does look a lot crisper on the Viper in person. Everything else goes to the Z it's no comparison. I just don't like the body lines and overall shape of the viper.

The paint on the viper I looked at locally was AWEFUL compared to the paint on my vette. I mean, really horrible... It was dull, and gross. Half way between a matte and a gloss. It was hideous.

For an enthusiasts' site, posters love to beat on the Z06. The negative posts go on forever with pages and pages. Any positive post quickly disappears.

For the other 99% of us who own Z06's we'll just go out and enjoy our 650 hp, supercharged, technological tour de force.

As soon as mine is out of the paint shop (rocks from road construction) it is going to have another 200hp added at Bailys Performance then it will be a "technological tour de force"!!

For those of us that will track these cars (and I know you do ), I think the question will be how well the dealer network will support the car. It seems a little sketchy now, and I wonder if it will get worse if Viper is discontinued. From what I have read, in some cases owners have had lots of issues relative to getting service issues addressed. Thankfully, I have a friend who is a Viper tech at a local dealer, so I 'think' I would be fine.

It can't get worse, trust me.

Then its an old car or a non factory paint job or a wrap.
The Gen V paint is superb.

Of course! That's why we have forums...

The only thing that should overheat are the brakes. Tadge has acknowledged there is a problem and stated a fix is coming. That's it.

Nope. It was factory paint new car. It was just ugly as can be. Granted it was nicely done. Just hideous.

Are you suggesting they leave 20% of the power on the table to accommodate the 0.01% of people that have had hot track issues?

If so, I hope such insanity is optional. I grew up worrying about nuclear war. I'm not going to grow old worrying about my oil cooler.

Link?

Hard to believe I missed that, but searching for overheating and Tadge returned more than a full page of results, believe it or not!

I had a CL65 that retailed for $220K, I bought it at $130 about a year old, and sold it for $60K three years in.

By that metric the Corvette is a blue-chip investment.

I sell MB for a living...let me tell you, LEASE the damn thing, unless you plan on driving it until the wheels fall off. By far Corvettes in general hold their value better than the Avg Mercedes, AMG or not

100%. I leased it as a certified pre-owned so I knew what my back end was before I ever looked at it. It's the only way unless you're certain you'll keep it long term.
