Default Track wheel and tire setups, post within

Running sets of ~$1900 PSS or ~$2200 PSC2's isn't really very cost effective. So it's time to decide on a track wheel/tire setup for my Z06.
Please post wheel make/model, size, offset and tire brand and sizes. Some pics would be great. I know there are people running Finspeed, Forgeline, CCW.
Thanks!
***EDIT: Also please note if your car is a Z07 package car (in case the brakes or aero do not give it away in pictures)***

Good thread to create, Sean! I'm also curious how other tire brands perform on the track including the cost benefit outcome...

For track use, I presently use my stock Michelin PSS but now mounted on GM Speedline lightweight Cup wheels, which are the same dimensions as stock Z06 wheels however they are a bit lighter per wheel as follows:
Front stock Z06 wheels: 28 lbs
Front Cup wheels: 26 lbs
---
Rear stock Z06 wheels: 32 lbs
Rear Cup wheels: 28 lbs
As you can see there is some benefit due to less unsprung weight. I have a new set of Continental Extreme Contact DW's mounted on my stock Z06 wheels now for street use. One of the instructors in So. FL also has a C7 Z06 and he will try a new set of Contis on the track once his Michelins are done (which will be soon!).

So far I have done 2 HPDE's and 1 autocross event on the stock PSS... my thread life is down to approx 50%, same with the brake pads!

Nice looking TSW's plus they're also light. I wanted the Panorama but in stock sizes which isn't available. I also like less complex design/spokes of wheels for track use since it's easier and more open space to view and assess the health status of pads/rotors or debris in the brake caliper area...

The wheels looks really nice. I'm interested to hear how the car performs with the smaller rear wheel and tire widths.

Were you running Cup 2's the last time you were there? It looks like the Cup 2's pulled nearly as many lateral G's in my C7Z as the R6's did on my C6Z.

Thank you for starting this. I almost did the same thing last night after searching the track section looking for insight. I thought it must have been covered to death and I just couldn't find it. Guess not.

I use Hoosier R6 18/19 on my C6Z. I like the performance. Hesitate to go back to a treaded tire like the cup 2 on track.
Is anyone aware if C6Z06 wheels will clear the Z07 brakes? They clear the Brembo BBK on my C6 but only by a mm.

Stock front wheels - 25.7 lbs
TSW front wheels- 21 lbs

Stock rear wheels- 31.8 lbs
TSW rear wheels- 21 lbs.

Thats 9.4 lbs off the fronts
21.6 lbs off the rears.

total of 31 lbs loss just in wheels. Doesn't even count the tires which will be as much or more. I would say I have lost at least 60 lbs with just the wheel tire swap.

Well worth the $1100 for the set.

Very impressive.
Why did you chose to go with the narrower rears?
I have a set of Conti slicks from the same people that fit my C6Z06 OEM rims. 325/710/19 and 285/645/18. Wouldn't the c7 Z need more rubber?

Finspeed 18x11 front - 315/30/18 a7 Hoosiers

Finspeed 18x13 rear -345/35/18 a7 Hoosiers
34 pound weight savings total just in the rims.
My car is a z07 and the wheels clear just fine.

Cyclone09Z06 sent me some pics tonight...
Finspeeds with 305-650/18 front and 325/710-18 rear Conti slicks (correct me if I'm wrong, Frank). I think the third pic is a different Finspeed wheel than what is shown on his car.

Cup 2s seem pretty cheap to me. Almost 8,000 miles on mine and 2.5 track days. That's cheaper than most slicks.

There are some Toyo's on tire rack that come up to only $1.2k for a whole set and fit the stock wheels. I'd say that's the cheapest setup if you don't care about going fast.

re two of the wheel choices.
I don't know either brand...... The finspeeds look like they are about $800 a wheel......is their reputation good?

Sure like the price on the TSW though. Almost seems too cheap.

Great thread. I would suggest some caution in after market wheels for track use based on my experience. The G forces put on suspension, wheels and tires get progressively extreme with each new car generation and metal fatigue becomes more of an issue. I have had cast metal track wheel spoke crack and break, even forged wheels can develop stress cracks. Obviously a wheel failure at speeds could be catastrophic. Just be sure and inspect track wheels for cracks every time theiy are cleaned. No wheels, regardless of manfacturer, can stand up to track use indefinitly. Been there, done that, be careful.

Agreed. Track wheels are not the place to skimp. I'd suggest calling the mfg and asking them if they are recommended for track use. Especially with slicks.
