Default GM kills 100,000-mile Chevy, GMC powertrain warranty

"Through research, we have determined that when purchasing a new vehicle, included maintenance and warranty rank low on the list of reasons why consumers consider a particular brand over another,"

http://m.leftlanenews.com/gm-100-000-mile-chevy-gmc-powertrain-warranty.html

I wonder if and how this affects the conservative tune?

Not to mention they reduced the 4 free (5 in some cases) oil changes down to only two now. I wonder what will be next....

I suppose those of us with the 10 year 100,000 mile warranty got lucky! not modifying mine! Car should have a good resale value if kept stock.

With multiple vehicles in the household I have never come close to 100K in 5 years. I prefer the Cadillac warranty coverage, 6 yr/70K powertrain and 4/50K bumper to bumper.

The dealers were probably lobbying for this since it makes it easier to push extended warranty contracts.

Ummm, that research is wrong?

For some buyers (the 1%) yeah, they might not care, but the rest of the world does. I LOVE the fact that my DD has a 4 year warranty for all of my mileage and FOUR YEARS of free service - including brakes.

I bought my DD Chevy Cruze BECAUSE of its warranty. GM - Listen up.

On the brighter side, so now the 2016's are getting a price hike and a worse warranty, where are all the people calling us early adopters idiots for paying MSRP?

Give it time boys. The cars will eventually sit on the lots and be discounted right out the door, same as always.

I hear ya! We put a lot of miles on our cars and warranty is BIG, with that said, scratch Chevy off the list.

Hell i drive 60k a year for my jetta work car and warranty was out the window the 1st year on the motor. but still gm is dumb as hell degrading the warranty on it's highest end sports cars/sedans.

damn scary to be buying a car with a $20k motor in it cts-v sedan and ats-v and only 60k warranty on it now

They are doing a huge stock buy-back so the money needs to come from somewhere; the customer.

Another reason for the Corvette to be it's own brand and sold only by Cadillac dealers.

Wow, so glad I got a 2015. The warranty is a huge deal to me.

This doesn't really bother me a whole lot on the z06 but it pisses me off for the 2016 gmc diesel I was planning to buy for work this year. 2500 miles a month adds up quick

Since when has it come from anywhere else?

The warranty probably isn't that big of a deal to the normal Chevy or GMC Customer. Most of them keep their cars 5 or 6 years at the most. At the end of 5 years some may have reached the 60K mile limit on the powertrain but it wouldn't matter to most of them. The free maintenance thing is a sales gimmick. They charge more for the car so all you are doing is prepaying for the maintenance. With GM cars you are talking about a minimum of $130/yr for a car that isn't driven much to $300/yr for a car that is driven 15K miles per year for regular maintenance. That is if you are doing the maintenance at a dealership. It gets lower if you use an independent shop.

So with this being announced, you think the 2016 z06 will have more power due to a less conservative Ecu over the 2015 now that it only needs to last 60k vs 100k?
