rumors are flying that gm will not continue production of the z-06 but will come out with a ??z-07.. Does anyone care to speculate.

Highly, highly unlikely that they will discontinue the Z06 after just two model years.
And even if they did, they likely wouldn't call it's replacement a "Z07" anyway.
An added model (ZR1? L88?) maybe though?

As long as it continues to sell, they will make it. My speculation is that as more people see actual performance versus some of the mud and myth slung as facts around here, it will be in demand for several years.

My projections is the c7 will run from 2014-2021.. The z06 will be produced throughout the years in declining quantities after the first 2-3 years. GM will introduce a wide body base car around this mark. And I don't think there will be a new zr1 because there isn't enough room on the table for the corvette market to get to much more expensive.
What I would love to see is a gt2/3 style car based off this, basically similar logic applied to the z28 to the z06.
But what do I know?

A grand sport??? Oh God NOOOOO!!!!
No disrespect to the GS owners but the Z06 should have its own identity!

I'm not saying there will not be a zr1 but the horsepower battle we are in right now is pushing the edge of emissions limitations.

ZR1TG
I think there is plenty of room for a much higher priced corvette as long as it performs accordingly . apparently ford thinks so they are bringing back the ford gt at twice the price 300k ? I realize this is specifically to have a factory race car in limited production numbers but clearly americans will pay as long as the performance is there case in point 85k dodge challenger ? they cant make those fast enough to keep up .
I would expect to see a ZR-1 Zora ? C8 mid engine all wheel drive car in the not too distant future and priced a little higher then c6 ZR-1 maybe 149k and up . As long as its the fastest corvette factory has made it will sell .

It may be that the A8 and removable roof on the current Z06 kill the attraction of making a C7 Grand Sport. The C6 GS made available the auto transmission and removable roof that you couldn't get in a C6Z06 or ZR1. Also the convertible.

I know most wanted a C6 zo6, but they wanted a automatic so they were forced to buy a C6 Grand Sport.
C7 Grand Sport Maybe, but now that the Zo6 has a automatic not likely, but you never know.
All depends on the sales numbers

The C6 Z's averaged 6k per year the first four years and 600 the last four years, heck they built more 427's in 2013 than they built Z's from 2010-2013. Maybe if by 2017 they have posted a Ring time it will still sell.

Exactly, it's coming. The small costs to use existing parts and charge 5-10k more then a base car is a great mid life refresh for GM. There is still a 20k difference between a z51 and z06 to work with right now.

Why does anyone care what someone else drives or what their car looks like??? Who cares? I'm not out to impress or care what anyone else thinks. I buy drive and enjoy what I like.

they certainly won't come out with a c7 Z06 replacement that soon. maybe an enhancement or two, but not a major re-design. the Z06 is a good seller and with the auto, removable top, convertible and lower base price has a much broader appeal than both the C6 Z06 and ZR1 combined.
who knows how much they spent on R&D to develop the Z06, but if it only had a 2 yr economic life, the accountants would declare it a failure and nix a follow on development. Tadge as much as said that in one of his talks.
expect at least 4-5 years and the next version cannot be called a Z07 since that is already an option.

Major Change?
I had lunch last week with a Tier I automotive interior part manufacturer. We each talked about our latest time suck. Him investigating boat building. Me spending hours on CF, anticipating the bash and hopefully a purchase.
Curiously he said that GM was the most lax of the domestic OEMs with drawings. He claimed that one can access most drawings as long as they know the drawing number, no permission per drawing is needed. [I cannot confirm, this was his experience]. In any case, they are starting to work on a part for the 2017 Vette and literally nothing is available, which is atypical for this phase of the development.
He asked his contact about drawings for the windshield, headliner, etc. and the response was to the effect that he was asking for something that he shouldn't have. Not because it doesn't exist, but that it is not being shared. He is not a car enthusiast and only brought it up as I was so enthusiastic about the topic. He only said that the secrecy at this stage in the game was a bit curious.
