Default Top speed actually achieved in new Z06

I am curious what top speed some of you have achieved with the new Z06 and in what gear. I know in my 2007 Z06, here in the boondocks on a good road, seldom used or visited by cops I had the car running at 195 MPH in 5th gear.

This is an example of what I don't like about this forum, why I have seldom participated in recent years. I asked a simple question, The answer could have been, "I went 202 mph in 5th gear."

Instead I get a snarky answer from someone I don't know and could care less about. I am my own man and only have to please myself. I asked a factually based question, not for your opinion. If you didn't like my question, keep it to yourself.

Few, if any on this board will ever know the top speed. That's why it is somewhat amusing that so many are obsessed with it.

What you say is true about the majority, but if you think about the density of the US, there are plenty of low density places in the US, such as the Upper Peninsula of Michigan which has 40% of Michigan's land mass and 3% of it population, great 2 lane highways, very lightly traveled where high speed runs are possible. You only need to worry about deer, wolf, coyote and bear getting in your way

Let's face it, the only reason anyone is curious about top speed is for bragging rights. The first thing out of the typical non-car idiots mouth when they talk to you about your car is "how fast does it go." Some people like to have some sort of top speed figure to tell them so they can go oooh and aaah.

Sister lives in Cedar Rapids. I'm amazed at how much money is out there; mostly due to the medical industry I'm assuming.

Quite a few people ask me how fast I've driven my C6 Z06, and they are not "idiots", they are just curious as they know the Z06 is a fast car.

No need to call them names. They ask a honest question and I give them an honest answer. I say "GM says the car will do 198 MPH but the fastest I've had it is 162 and that was driving around Talladega.".

Not bragging, and I didn't drive my car at 162 to prove anything to you or to the "idiots". I did it to have fun and to enjoy one of the many things the car will do.

Why should I lie and say that I've never been above 70 MPH?

I've taken several cars to their top speed just for the fun of it. Same reason I track my Vettes.

The top speed means the car has a strong high top end acceleration.

I believe gm stated 185 mph with aero 3 (because road course work benefits from downforce and top speed it pretty much a non issue)

I think I heard the aero 1 tops out around 195 mph per gm..

The c6 z51 ls3 topped out at 190 and the z06 was probably 199 and the zr1 was I believe quoted at 206? I don't remember.....

For the most part if I run to 150 mph late at night with no one around its rare....so for me over 150 is all a dick measuring tool..

That said...185 mph is the number I'd suggest with aero 3 considering gm is usually right on target with their performance data they make public...

Car guys ask "how fast is it"! A lot all ready know cause they are car guys. Sounds like a touchy defensive Z06 owner who doesn't like any comments about speeds over 150 mph.

Like these are not bought for bragging rights.

Went 130mph on the back road from Ishpeming to K.I. Sawyer AFB in a 65, 327, 4 speed Sting Ray. Longer ago than I would like to think about, lol...............Bill

According to Road & Track, top speed for the new Z is 186mph....

Good luck with that tho, you'll need a lot of road. Anything above 160mph and that car will crawl...
