Yes, very impressive. I did read somewhere that the Ring had recent changes to the track perhaps like pavement improvements. If this is so, all the old records would be useless for comparisons.

Regardless, one fast lap !! I hope it is true and verifiable. Would love to see the video with MPH, RPM, G-force, and Time information.

This just shows how old the CF members are. No wonder GM is trying so hard to get away from your demographic.

1) How is calling a Sante Fe a POS mean i own one? I think my comment was justified seeing as the website was "topspeed.com"

2) You don't even get a Fast and Furious reference. Trying to offend me by failing to understand a common sarcasm used in the car world is just embarrassing yourself.

Uh....you guys know that GM said the time wasn't real, right? And that info was posted about 8 pages ago.

So, now we're just enjoying each others company, new members spreading their wings and jumping headlong into the Corvette Forum life....makes me feel good.

And then I woke up and realized that this place has turned into a forum full of legends (somewhere). Got to love the "IGNORE" feature. I was a member here for NINE years and never used it, now, in the last year, I've used it 10 times. Go figure. Between veteran members that can't read and newbies that have never even DRIVEN a Corvette, it's a sad place.

Actually, Anyone who has at any time been goated into seriously considering this should be ashamed of themself! The mechanics are too suspect!

No, it's fake. The z06 got a 5:59. And it beat the 918 with a different driver on a repaved track.

So it essentially didn't beat the 918 on VIR, and I was just sarcastic about the ring time.

But you might as well go with both being true, ignorance is bliss.

It is true, but in fairness, the Z06 was being driven by Jim Mero and the 918 was being driven by one of the writers from Car and Driver. Not a fair comparison. Mero is a LOT faster than any of the C&D writers!

Sub 7 minutes is not happening - to all think that the improved grip and brakes will knock 20 seconds off the Ring time I submit this from Motor Trend - Z06 vs. GTR - spoiler alert it lost by more than a second around the 2.5 mile Willow Springs course:

"How did that happen? We were as surprised as you. The Z06 has obvious weight, power, and grip advantages, and yet it lost by more than a second. In fact, it barely beat the even less powerful (and lighter) Porsche 911 GT3's lap time despite a whopping 175-hp and 326-lb-ft advantage. Here's what the data showed: The Z06 generally out-braked the NISMO and carried more speed through the middle of most corners, but the NISMO was back on the throttle sooner and carried more speed out. What's more, the NISMO was significantly faster on the straights, besting the Z06's top speeds by 6 and 7 miles per hour on the front and back straights.

No way in hell it'll beat the ZR1's times... The new Z is embarrassing slow after 100mph for a 650hp car. The C6 Z is even faster 0-150mph with 150hp less.

Not to mention the Motortrend article said the Z got slower the more laps they went. So on a long track like the Ring, its gonna start falling behind.

I'm guessing somewhere around 7:20

Did GM really think in this day and age they could just cram a marketing campaign and PR slogans down our throats and we would ignore all the instantly available real world info?

I knew something was rotten once the weight was announced - 400lbs gained is a disgrace. Then they did not report their Ring times and kept coming up with more marketing BS. "Do the Math-gate" was a final nail in the coffin. Losing to the less powerful heavier GTR at Big Willow is not just disappointing but embarrassing.

So sad. The C5 Z06 and C6 Z06 kicked *** on the street, strip and track. It's too bad they didn't live up to the legacy.

What really gets me is they sell a 650hp car, but the only place you see that number is on a dyno. Real world driving these things pull timing and fall on their faces it seems, and that will only get worse as it gets closer to summer.

No way this car can drive HARD for 7 minutes straight at the ring and not pull timing.

I honestly love this car and want to buy one, but im afraid we aren't done seeing the heat issues yet as summer isn't even here.

The C7 Z is still a great performer, but you're right about the marketing of the car. GM hyped it up so much and dished out so much BS about the car that everyone expected better. GM really did this to themselves. There are some serious issues that need to be addressed with the car if GM wants to hold on to what little credibility they have left.

Tadge says things like "most track capable Corvette ever" but then when asked about the heat soak and ECU issues, he says "oh well 95% of owners will be happy and those who aren't can seek aftermarket tunes".

It won't take anything close to $50K to dial in the Vette.
And for your info. that GTR wing was an iteration not forgetting about the boundary layer!

Time for GM to release a Z06x or a Z06GT3.
