Wow, just wow! I have a feeling this engine failure, overheating issue, among others will be a serious issue for the Z06!

I would be seriously reconsidering this purchase at this point. I'm glad I decided to wait.

Ouch!

I sort of doubt it will be an issue. My daughter had the engine fail in her Pontiac Terrain 2 years ago. She told the tow truck operator to tow the car to dealer closest to her and one of the better service shops in the area for all makes. Even though the car was towed past 2 other dealers in different towns for a total towing distance of 50 miles GM covered everything and did a complete engine replacement.

Sorry to hear about the bad news. Like anything mechanical, it can fail, and not due to a serious flaw.

Its not GM's first supercharged motor in a vette, so I trust you'll be good to go with the next one.

Best of luck!

GM will take good care of you, just give them a fighting chance b/f throwing them to the dogs.

P.S. Please share with us the exact cause of the failure, i.e. spun bearing, blown piston etc once you find out.
Maybe GM will throw in a premium/platinum extended warranty !

Out of the over 11 million vehicles (private & commercial) produced in the U.S. in 2013, I wonder how many catastrophic engine failures occurred. I would bet that every make and model, on some scale, experienced complete engine failure. The difference is, this forum has 1000's of people brought together by their love of the Corvette, or cars in general. If we were all on here sharing knowledge and stories about the Pontiac Aztek...I'm sure a few of us would experience an engine failure as well.

Very fast service from GM.

Agree, bet it spun rod or main bearing and the noise he was hearing was the piston slapping the cylinder head and the bearings literally welding themselves to the crankshaft. Never a good sound to hear. I am truly sorry for your loss.

I had a '98 that went thru 3 transmissions while under warranty. GM was really good about replacements with no hassle, plus provided rental car for a month.

I'm on the Toyota Highlander forum, and haven't ran into any threads about engines failing for their new model, yet (2014-15). Then again, they always say, "It's a Toyota".

With the LT1 engine we see a lot of PCV/ crankcase pressure issues, especially when we boost them. That is why we developed our custom breather setup for those that do plan on pushing their cars hard Naturally Aspirated and especially when boosted.

Stock LT1 air box turned on its side. You can see all the oil running out.

Do you know if this mod would void warranty? Looks good!
