Default DSOM Z06 side by side with Z51

I had the privilege of documenting the delivery of a DSOM Z06 in So CA today. I'm on the fence about trading my Z51 for a Z06 so I wanted to see and hear them side by side.

One thing I was NOT expecting was how much louder the Z06 is. I had read others posting about it and figured NPP was NPP. I couldn't have been more wrong. The Z06 is MUCH louder than my Z51 even with the fuse pulled. Enjoy the photos and video of these 2 bad girls side by side :

And here's a 1:30 video that briefly shows the Z06 delivery plus a simple sound comparison (just side by side startups and revs) at the 1 minute mark. I'm not easily rattled, but you'll probably hear my faint verbal exclamation the first time the Z06 revs. It's not obvious how much louder the Z06 is due to the video camera's audio compression flattening everything out... but from the level of distortion that results... you can tell it was loud.:

This rear pic makes me long for the clean look of the C7 with the wide rear of the Z06, ala c6 Grand Sport.

Never thought I would say this because I ragged on the base C7, but I prefer the spatless front end of it..... but love the C7Z widebody rear (minus the black bolt on Batwing.) Maybe if it was molded in and painted to match the body it would look better?

I had a TR C7 Stingray and now own a DSOM Z06... Both great cars but over all ... like cherries to oranges ... there is no comparison when driving the cars or the sound of the cars. I do like the view of the rear window view stance on the Stingray that is a bit blocked by the Z06 spoiler - but the positives are crazy better over all.

The feel and sound of the LT4 is crazy compared to the LT1.

Im also adding headers, XPipe, air box and tune for just a bit more too....but keeping the stock mufflers

I really think the base car holds its own this time around vs. the Z06 visually. With the C6Z the visual improvement was vast. Now the Z looks slightly overdone imo, especially above stage 1. I'd prefer them not forcing you to have a carbon flash rear spoiler also.

Agreed. The bolt on spoiler makes it look like a cheap afterthought. Probably my least favorite part of the C7Z.

This is the 1st time I can ever say that I like the look of the base model over the performamce variant, I have decided months ago that the C7 model is something I will skip.(even though I really liked the driving experience of the C7)

I just can't get over the back end of the car, and it has nothing to do with the tailights , while I like some parts of the design, IMO , the car just doesn't flow.

Brian, MUCH THANKS for your patience and photography skills. I really do appreciate what you did for me today.

Offer accepted. When the Z is broken in, she is yours for a joy ride. I am sure you will be much more confused about your choices afterward. LOL

OR, just get your prancing horse and be done with it!

I like the Z51 spoiler much better, but love the fat a*s tires on the Z, plus it's diffuser. Oh, it's nice not to have spats either.

Are the front fenders the same size between the 2 cars? The only difference I see is the plastic extensions on the Z06. It's obvious the rear fenders are much wider on the Z06... but the front fenders do not look wider.

Beautiful cars!!

Front fenders are slightly different. I've added 1 more photo to show that more clearly.

Front fenders are not the same. They are not wider than the base car but they do flare up a bit higher and the spats add some width. There are many schools of thought on why they designed it this way, but most likely it was a cheaper solution than having to create an entirely new front bumper to match the wider fenders. I think the design would have been more impressive and cleaner to do it the way they did with the C6Z, but it's moot at this point. Not a deal breaker for anyone I would imagine but I think it looks like crap.....this statement coming from a guy who just ordered one.

I love that DSOM color with the black trim on that Z06. It looks really nice in the sun. The only thing I would change would be the chrome rims to satin black.

Also, I know this has been beaten to death...

...but that orange peel in the rear fender shots on that Z06 is so sad!
