Edit: and honestly, I should reserve judgement. I thought the Z28 was disappointing just on trap speeds alone but it shut me up real quick when the track results came in. Excited to see how the Hellcat performs around a track as well.

Yep I remember and yes looking forward to seeing that beast perform also....

Anyone who would reconsidering buying a Z06 because of this news was buying the wrong car to begin with.

I would love to have the Hellcat motor in my Durango R/T however!

Better yet, put that mill and trans in a resto mod 'Cuda. That would be a rocking cool ride.

I bet GM knew already, maybe that's why the Z got 650?

A Shelby should also be on your radar if you are truly a "car guy" (it has more power than the Stingray, Z06 and ZL1), as far as bang for the buck

I'd still lean toward the current GT500. Underrated engine and a quick pulley swap and tune make that heavy beast really move.

Value-wise? Not sure you can beat this thing. Would I ever even look at it? Not a chance, but that's personal preference.

The current GT500 is a potent beast without doubt and like you say a quick pulley swap tune and you'll embarrass some much more expensive cars in a strait line.

the hellcat is a 700 hp engine in a 4500lb shopping cart. not even on the radar. I'd rather have an SS camaro or a mustang GT. Chrysler products are turds.

Pretty simple to see why the Dodge powerplant has more power:
1. Iron bottom
2. Engine is half a foot taller

GM can easily get these numbers, but not without adding weight and lifting the hoodline. Most likely the lt4 is strong enough even in aluminum guise, but the low profile is a must for proper aerodynamics.

I strongly prefer the light, compact, and efficient LT4 to the hellcat engine.

Definitely awesome for us car buyers. My personal preference though is though, is that if the car can't hit corners it's a POS

not sure why everyone is tripping. 707 is going to be 630 at the wheels. With a gross weight of 4300lbs this heavy turd will be lucky to trap 127. Power is not everything , you also need to calculate weight into the picture.

here is a Srt8 with a supercharger that made 700 at the wheels (not crank) thats like close to 800HP

it trapped 126.7 ..weight killed it.

Over 700 hp is impressive, I don't care who you are. Nice to see Detroit pumping out 600 plus hp engines with a warranty like nothing. Dodge is now on top the hp wars.

Before everyone jumps to conclusions, let's see what track or Ring numbers this hippopotamus will clock.

My brother in law has a 13 Shelby GT 500. I've experienced that thing first hand and it is wild !!! But since there is one already in The family that's why I'm not considering buying one.

...Yet a base model C7 is quicker and faster in every way.... Oh, and costs less, too. (Don't get me wrong, I own a 2014 Twin Turbo SRT Viper... But let's be realistic here folks)

I assure you that you're not going to meet a bigger fan of cars and not manufacturers than this guy right here. I used to be an auto journalist and have driven absolutely everything. Before that, yeah I was a Chevy fan boy, since then I learned to love all sorts of cars. Frankly I'd rather have a Challenge Stradale than the new Z06 but it's a good bit more money and not as good a daily driver. Anyway, I say what I say about the Hellcat because every Dodge I've driven with that chassis has been a complete and total nightmare and not because I'm some ignorant Chevy fanboy. Not like there are any guys like that around here at all. Nope. None.

Best,
Gene

This happens every few years... Folks get sucked into the marketing and mystique and forget about real world factors...

The weight and tires of the hellcat will be the limiting factor. It will be a great pony car! Hell yes, but it won't be clicking off lowww 11's like OEM C7s are already doing. (not without more boost or Nitrous and wayy better tires)

C7s are not clicking Low 11s. heck in normal DA they can't break 12s. The Hellcat will in fact run low 11's with an auto all day. I would venture it will prob go 10.9s with an AUTO and good launch control .

The Z06 will crush it. The C7 no chance on straight away.
