Yahoo sucks but in this case likely correct. First year models are ripe with problems no matter what the brand.

GM just has too many recalls, and with a first year model Z and new stuff like the supercharger etc, unless you have to have it it is always better to wait a year and not be a guinea pig.

Best example-----991 GT3. A lot of very angry owners.

Maybe they meant that you should only avoid YELLOW C7 Z06's, not ALL C6 Z06's.

It seems that Yahoo just isn't pulling data out of their ***, as Yahoo had an.......

"Analysis conducted for Yahoo Finance by Stout Risius Ross, an auto-industry financial advisory firm, suggests more things go wrong with newly introduced or redesigned cars than with models that have been on the road for a few years. These findings substantiate what some consumer advocates have long suspected: It may be wise to avoid buying brand-new models and wait until a vehicle has been road-tested for a year or two. “The data we’ve analyzed indicates new-production vehicles demonstrate an elevated level of recall risk,” says Neil Steinkamp, managing director at SRR. “The risk seems to tail off after the first production year.”

This will not deter me as I have been a part of said recalls on a new model sports car. As long as it is something minor (like a hose clamp not performing to standards) then I honestly don't care. Now,if it's like the GT3 or a recall on my transmission, then yeah, I might be upset. Course, I guess I shouldn't be since I've been warned by Yahoo. Needless to say, I will keep my fingers crossed when I take delivery.

Yeah, that Yahoo article is interesting but, I also find it interesting with respect to Corvettes a number of the first year models are to date the most desirable (read sell for higher prices). A few come to mind like; 1953 (granted supply and demand is an issue), 1957 (second year for body style but, like the Z06, first FI, 4 speed, 283 cid), 1963 coupe, 1967 L88, 1969 ZL1 (again like the 2015 Z06). There are more but I guess I'm saying "who shives a git" if you want it, buy it. If it is recalled the repair is FREE (yes your time is worth something) and many good dealers will give your precious ride a good once over and wash, vacuum and/or detail. While you wait you can kick some tires and check out what is new. Just sayin'.

They should write an article how taking advice off of the internet is often a complete waste of time.

Dunno, might have been written by a French model.

Models that are "collectable" and draw the most money at actions today have nothing to do with first year problems. Even the cars you mentioned, only the 1953 and the 1963 were first year cars of their generation. How about the other five generations that you didn't mention? Look at the 1962; the last year of the C1 generation and the improvements made. the look at the 1963 and look at all the changes made for the 1964 model. Then look at the 1968 and all the improvements made for the 1969 model. look at the 1984 model and all the improvements made for the 1985 model. Look at the 1997 and all the improvements made in the 1998 model. Look at the 2005 model and then look at all the changes made to improve the 2006 model.

Want to know why the Ford Thunderbird ate the Corvette's lunch in 1955, 1956 and 1957? It wasn't because Chevrolet wasn't trying to improve the Corvette, as they were.

Want to know how many of those early Corvette fuel Injections systems were removed by their owners and replaced with carburetors because of all the problems with the FI?

Perhaps but we all know the first year models are always faster. Just look at the 2006 Z06. Those models are slightly more aggressive because it's the first year that's going to get all the press time.

....the above may or may not be complete BS.

Maybe for the first couple of inches after launch, until they break an axle(that was made stronger by GM in later versions, and owners were replacing with stronger C5 axles).

Yahoo brings up an interesting point. Maybe everyone should stay away from the Z06 for the first year.

Line is shorter for me.

Unfortunately, the C6 got a reputation for poor reliability and it seems to somehow have gotten worse in the later models, which is a first. I don't know where the data comes from, but it seems to be based on ownership surveys and is consistent among various auto publications. Consumer Reports even puts the C6 in the list of used cars to avoid. I have 2 C6s and have had no issues, but the reputation is there and the press is biased. They are already expecting the C7 to be similarly unreliable.
