Default C7R engine for the street?

How many of you would like your Z06 to come with a detuned version of the C7R's 5.5L racing mill, but without the air intake restrictor? I think that would be sweet, even if only in very limited production....

The C7R's LS7 is already detuned....how much more detuned do you want it?

The c7r has less power than the stock c7z will have...car is a lot lighter. It would not be that fast in a 3400lb c7.

I wouldn't be that interested in a sub-500hp Z.

Personally id rather have a engine with alot of torque for street driving. High reving engines are fun on a track not so much on the street.

The 5.5L race engine makes 480ish hp (I'm guessing that's rwhp as most race cars are measured on chasis dyno for testing, inspections, protests, etc but I am not 100% sure. Even at the crank, not bad) and that is with a significant restricter. They are not an extreme high reving either. I'd like to have the ITB intake on a street car, supposedly they can make a huge cam much more drivable. For me, I'd take a Z with this motor, it would be a weekend/nice day and hpde car and not a point A to B car, any downfall of the race style engine design wouldn't discourage me!

What sense would that make?

What are you walking about? The 5.5 race mitre uses far to many custom components to make it street able! The engine was designed to be several inches lower than a stock LS motors by integrating the main caps into the dry sump. The there is the full carbon intake track with MASSIVE air boxes! These only fit thanks to the lowered engine!

In essence your living in a fantasy world if you think this motor would see ANY street time!

The C7R engine needs to be broken down and rebuilt several times per season. There is a reason race engines are not in street cars, they are not built for road reliability.

Did you know the C7R engine needs to be warmed up by an electric oil warmer at least 20 minutes before the car can be started? Starting the C7R cold would cause damage to the motor. Also, there are no emission controls on the car. Put emission controls with a street exhaust and the power will go down even more.

Last, why would anyone want a motor with less power. I think everyone thinks race engines are great, but they are not, in the case of the C7R, it is built around specific rules, not because GM can only get 480hp from a 5.5 liter. Trust me, if there were no rules, the C7R would have a 1000+hp motor.

Also the C7R is fast because of low weight and more importantly the gear box. They run a real race sequential transmission. This is like adding 150+hp to the motor as far as acceleration times. The gearing is focused on acceleration, not highway mileage, so the 5th is actually a usable gear for acceleration, not overdrives like the street car.

He said a de tuned version. I assume he meant a spin off street motor built with some of the gadgets and tech used in the race engine. More extreme than a normal NA street engine, less extreme than the R motor. Maybe he meant the actual race motor idk. He asked if anybody would want one, not if it was a good idea. He also never said he wanted it cause it would be faster than other options, we all know the trans and low weight makes a huge difference in speed, not news to most people on this forum. Can't we fantasize about cool drivetrain combos without haters screaming about why it won't work! Can't we all just get along :P

Is Katech involved at all, or is the new race engine all GM in house?
