Nope. Due the math on how long it takes to shift a manual verses the new a8 x how many up shifts will occur the auto will come out on top due to the faster shift times. Fastest for a manual between 280 and 300ms less than 100ms for the a8.

"I think they will be to close to determine or mater."

The top 15 times at the ring are determined by seconds. It will matter. One will be faster than the other and I can guarantee you GM doesn't pick sides of this debate. They will proudly post the time of the fastest new z06.

"@ the ring the manual will have a chance to be top dog with a very good driver....but not at the drag strip. "

Strip auto for sure....And I will bet the auto is king at the ring also. But we will see. New auto to be tested and proved yet. Will be cool to see though.

They will use the auto, just to prove a point.

There is more to running fast at the ring than just shift time.

A good manual driver will be faster than an automatic at the ring.

Auto will be faster on the drag strip since shift time is the main factor there.

Ummm...genius, shift times are THE factor in ALL forms of motorsport.

Ever wonder WHY the Corvette Racing Team use a sequential trans in their car?

Yes...it shifts FASTER than a manual, plus less wear & tear on the components.

Where do these people come from?

But a GOOD driver knows the optimum gear to be in at all times. The auto does not. Genius.

If you're on the track, you're not letting the auto do the deciding, you're in manual mode, flippin' the paddles.

Valid point.

But I HATE paddles. I'll keep my manual thank you very much.

+1, the misinformation surrounding the hype of these autos is astounding. GM will try to validate their transmission so they will say whatever they want but the manual will not likely get a fair shake. Might not even take a manual over there. Will be hard to duplicate conditions and have a driver optimized to both on the same day unless there are multiple drivers.

This is one lap, not endurance racing. Invalid comparisons.

No matter what we will have 2 very different and completely bad *** z06's!!
I currently have a CTS-V auto. Never been an auto guy. But I see what is out in the market and what is working. When GM went to the ring in 2009, yep been a while I know, with the new CTS-V. They took both versions of the car. Auto, manual. And chose the auto to make there time. They laid down , at the time, the fastest time ever on the ring by a 4 door car. GM wanted to make a statement and didn't care which version did it. That car and lap time paved the way to put Cadillac back on the map.
GM did the same with the C6 ZR1 and C6 Z06. Put Corvette back on the map to everyone to take note. They will make new records with the new C7 Z06 and future C7 models.
I will also be looking forward when in late 2015 they show the new CTS-V. I will be shocked if the LT-4 isn't in the CTS-V. We will see though.
That is about the time I will decide to get a new Z06, used garage queen ZR1, or another CTS-V.

How about if you need to upshift in the middle of a sweeper? Yes, there is PTM, but a good driver can outperform it. Unsettling the car means lost time. It also depends on how the gear ratios work out for the track speeds.

I respectfully say that you don't know what you are talking about. Not the a8, it is not, oh never mind. This thing has been beat to death. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
