GM 8L90E shifts faster than DCT in Porsche 911
Live reveal Reuss stated:
Wide-open-throttle upshifts executed up to eight-hundredths of a second, quicker than the dual-clutch in the Porsche 911

DCT fans explode all at the same time! LOL
Thanks for posting up...
A8 seems to be the way to go for the fastest track C7! (and I'm a manual transmission driver for over 3 decades..)
technology has advanced to the point many of us will move forward with GM's new 8 speed automatic...
Faster shift times than the DCT in the Porsche no less....
GM rocks!

It's just funny because most of the people beating the drum about how DCTs are the best and "slushboxes" suck don't actually understand how a transmission works and how advanced the newest covnerter-based autos are.

I highly doubt any Auto, including this one, will come close to performing at the level of the Porsche PDK.
I hope it does, but I just do not see it happening.

911!? I think it's time to move the compare bar a bit higher..

As for the automatic, I assume it still uses a torque converter and as much heat as the existing manual already generates, I'd be worried the A8 will overheat pretty quickly on track. Driven hard, my C6Z already makes 240 coolant, 305 oil and unknown on the transaxle. With extra heat from a torque converter, I am not sure there is enough cooling.
I'd have to try it on track to be convinced.

From the motor trend video the 8 speed is LIGHTER than the 6 speed.

Not sure why you guys think the car will overheat? It goes into full lock after first gear. Plus they have these things call transmission fluid coolers... you know DCTs have those too.

We knew the DCT wasn't possible based on the engineering team's comments last year. Tadge told everybody last year that a DCT wasn't possible with the current car's architecture due to lack of room. I would have preferred a DCT since from a track standpoint it would be better from a downshifting standpoint. The only hope with the auto is they have a tough torque convertor clutch that is locked up as soon as any shift is finished. Thus getting into a direct drive mode as soon as possible.

I'm just fooling around as so many on this site are so committed to DCT or PDK in the Porsche as being the best etc..
We won't know until GM tests the Z06 at various tracks with both the automatic A8 and the M7 as to which is faster or are they in fact equal.
I would like to imagine for a few minutes all the naysayers and DCT fans that insist that's the only way to have the best sports car....having their heads explode as soon as they heard on the video presentation that it was an automatic 8 speed..AND NOT A DUAL CLUTCH...
I imagine GM is clever enough to make the corvette...they will be clever enough to make the 8 speed automatic a NO COMPROMISE TECHNOLOGY..
