This remains in my mind as a time where I constantly wished I was sitting up high in my automatic SUV, so I get it for the DD folks.
As for drag racers, those interested in the fastest, most consistent times, will most likely choose the auto.

Yeah, not so much... if it is as capable as people expect then the auto should be close to a DCT in performance and as capable on a track too. Lots of manual cars are waxers too for the record and few of any variant see the track.
Manual for me but that's preference relative to engagement and feel. There will be people at the track faster than me in their auto and having as much fun. I'm not seeing the problem
But it's far more fun to listen to the chest thumping... justified or not It's interesting how many people measure the size of the e-peen based on their choice of transmission I measure the size of my e-peen based on lap time and it may, in fact, be smaller because I prefer the MT

Honestly.. I'd want to drive both before deciding.
If the 8sp auto shifts as fast as some are predicting.. and can hold up to serious track duty.. then I'd prefer it over the 7sp manual. I've always owned a manual car.. but living in an area with the worst commute in the country and 24 hour traffic.. I can definitely appreciate the every day usability of an automatic.

At least the M7 is an option! What other super cars give you the option to row your own gears? Not many! Maybe just one, Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2. Any others? I guess a Porsche 911 has a M7, that might be about it.

Completely... it would be sad if the M7 wasn't an option... glad GM hasn't gone that way... yet... wait and see what the C8 brings. The way the world is going there won't be a manual option soon enough and maybe that might be the C8. We don't need to like it but it is going to happen and is happening already.

Point being, there are many reasons why one would pick one option over the other. None of them are wrong.

A lot of you who want a manual have not driven a corvette with that kind of hp. That kind of power cannot be put to the ground with consistency by most drivers. I have a c5z with that power and first and second gear are useless with drag radials and you have to be very careful in 3rd. Power will be modulated much better with the auto in my opinion...that will be my choice for the first time since my '84.

I'm a manual guy for the Z06. I drove a Lambo with the paddle shift and felt that it was sluggish in it's response.
I want an auto in my H2, Suburban and the wife's Lexus, but in the Z its manual.

1000% Thank God I'm not the only one that thinks this. I've been a truck driver for 10 years and you can NOT beat the control of a manual gearbox, they've been trying to put automatics in big rigs forever now too and they just never stick because you have ZERO control.

I will test drive the auto , if its firm and crisp - I will get it. Been rowing gears for 20 years. Plus i am a drag racer and an auto at the strip is .5-.7 quicker vs rowing.
