Default Found out I have the shutter, should I just....

After reading another thread I found out the vibration I've been feeling at 70 mph that come in and out is the shutter issue. I'm planning on putting a cam in my car in 2 months. If I change the converter will it fix the shutter issue?

Yes it will. It can also be tuned out for the most part in the interim. The new fluid is also good to have in the trans.

my A8 has the vibration (shudder) sitting still when I rev the engine to around 2000 RPM & on the road in every gear at 2000 RPM also. Let me know if yours does it sitting still also.

Had the shudder on my 15, took it in to my local dealer and they did the triple flush with the new fluid. It was like a new car when I picked it up, no issues and its been about 3k miles.

Just bought a 2019 GS and yes....it has the shudder. Comes on when in V4 mode even at steady throttle every 10 sec or so. Really damn irritating to pay this much for a sports car and find it has a known issue. Took it back to the dealership and they concluded the same as me so it’s undergoing the triple flush this week. Hope that fixes the issue.

I have heard something about an aftermarket gadget that eliminates the 4 cylinder mode. Any one know what this is and is it any good?

Range Technology AFM disabler. Buy directly from them to ensure that you have the newest software revision.

Two issues
1. Shudder in TC- Had TC replaced at about 1000miles, came back at 17,000miles. Had triple flush done -runs really good. I was told issue not TC but fluid was absorbing condensation which cause viscosity to change. The new fluid does not allow this to happen.

2. There was a noise from engine when running in V4 mode under slight load. Noise quit after going into V8. Very irritating! The fix was replacing Belt tensioner on front of engine. Has not made noise since.

- I bought Range unit to eliminate going into V4. I did not like it because it started throwing transmission codes? I just let the AFM system work as designed.

Latest version of Range disabler (v8.6) should not throw any codes. If it does, and if you bought it from Range directly, they should update it.

I bought a 2019 GS on 19 Jan 2020. Noticed a weird vibration driving it home from the dealer. Dropped it off a the service dept this morning and started Googling and found this friendly forum and discovered this (infamous?) issue. All they could do a the service dept today was road test (confirming vibration), road balanced the tires, and re-road test with no change.

I assume that tomorrow I will hear something about a flush and/or TC?

Woodstoc, how did your story end?

I just bought a 19 GS yesterday. No shudder so far. Got my fingers crossed. Best of luck on cures.

The 2019 cars already have the new fluid for the transmission. That fluid seems to be the cure for the shudder in most cases. Very strange for a new 2019 off the lot to have the shudder.

Not all 19s do. If your 19 was built prior to Feb.2019, you have the old fluid.

So far I have a couple of thousand miles after the triple flush and the car is still free of that irritating shudder. Hopefully that's the last I've had of that. Now the dash has developed a rattle in the upper drivers side area somewhere. Always something.

two likely causes, display cluster (put your hand on the display cluster when rattling, see if it stops), or the center vent, known issue, especially in the earlier years. The more unlikely cause, but still happens, the ac pipe runs against the firewall from the right side of the motor towards the center. It has a rubber sleeve. Sometimes the rubber slides and the ac pipe knocks against the firewall under load.

I had the shutter in my 16 but was planning a converter anyways so I took that as a sign to do it. No issues after the Circle D converter installed.

Re: #14 above...turns out they read the road force balance test wrong...all four tires (374 total miles) were damaged - "flatspotted". I had them replaced with Michelin Pilot Sport 3+ in same fitment...vibration gone. Now I am dealing with Michelin Warranty claim as GM won't cover.

Also, since ya'll educated me about TC studder, I asked the service tech to tell me my build date: 12/19/2018...So now I know to be on the lookout and will get the new fluid if studder appears.
