Default What is most likely to break in my C7Z rear end?

Hey guys, I'm getting ready for another drag race season and I have to be honest, I'm getting nervous about breaking something in the rear end. I probably have 200 passes at the drag strip the past 3-4 years and she's been flawless thus far. After a few mods (upper pulley, E50, CAI, PTB, x-pipe), she's run a best of 10.09 at over 138. 60' times are in the mid 1.4's and I'm wondering what is most likely to break in the rear end? Half shaft, axles, spider gears? I launch from idle so as not to put so much pressure on the driveline. I would like to get your thoughts. I am not going to spend $4K to upgrade to wavetrac. Hoping for a less expensive option. Thanks guys!

I'm hoping the most I will break is axles if anything at all. I thought that loading the driveline a bit was easier on the driveline as it doesn't shock it as much on a launch. Either way, I've gotta get out there a try a few things now that it's warmer out. Last time I tried track temps were 50deg and couldn't get it to hook at all.

Half-shafts, followed by spider gears, and then stub-shafts. I have upgraded all, but have seen a broken 300m stub shaft...

There are at least 11 versions of c7 diff.
1. 2.41 base auto non-elsd
2. 2.73 z-51 auto elsd
3. 3.42 non elsd
4. 3.42 elsd z-51
5. 2.41 elsd zo6
6. 3.42 elsd zo6
7. 2019 2.41 non elsd
8. 2019 2.41 elsd
9. 2019 2.73 elsd
10. 2019 3.42 non-elsd
11. 2019 3.42 elsd

Try to not let it make your head spin. While many of these diffs can interchange with each other, internal component materials are different. And no, I didn’t make this up and I am not guessing...

Good info. Do we know if the 2019 units are any stronger? I would assume so or why change it

what power level are they usually breaking at? I know there's always a few that break with no rhyme or reason.

A base c7 with a missing plug wire can break any of the above components if you have wheel hop. That aside, the stock components seem to hold up well in the high 1.3x to low 1.4x 60’ scenarios, and some even quicker than that. The zo6 diff is stronger...

The shop that installed my Wavetrac is having trouble with some kind of a procedure that supposedly has to be done at a dealership. They can't find a dealer that will do it because it's so heavily modified.
Any suggestions?

I am guessing its the process to bleed the air bubbles out of the lines that go to the diff cooler. It can cause codes and or messages to show up. There is a special GM tool I think that's needed. Try calling Vengeance and see if they can provide some assistance. Good luck!

did your stock diff break first or did you do the wavetrac before it broke?

I had the Wavetrac put in when Dedicated Motorsports built and installed the forged engine. Wish I had the cash at that time to install DSS axles because I am having a hell of a time getting the pass side piece out of the diff...
