Default A/C Compressor Engaged

I've had the car for almost 2 years now and lately have noticed the a/c compressor coming on with the floor position selected for air distribution. A/C switch is off. Compressor engages normally for a/c or defrost modes as designed, but I don't think it should be on in the floor mode unless selected. If I select floor and panel vent position, compressor turns off. Auto mode and sync operate normally too. Also, when the compressor comes on in floor mode, a/c light is extinguished. Any ideas before taking it to the dealer. Is this normal operation and I've just now discovered it? Thanks
