C7 Z06 gas filler hard to us - Is it just me?

Yep, maybe service tech fed me a line. But what makes no sense to me is why those having trouble filling the tank haven't taken it to the dealer for repairs and then themselves report back about their fix?

Filled up my new to me Z today and what a pain in the D. Came here and it seems other have the same issue.
Is this a known thing with these cars? Is there a solution?
My tank was empty and it would not take gas, tried doing it myself at half level and it still would turn off the pump. No wonder this car only has 3,000 miles on it. The poor bastard before me couldn’t get gas in it.

I usually have to hold pump upside down at around 2 O Clock and meter flow manually as to not go to fast... just the way it is...

Check the pump nozzles. I have found some have a ring that prevents them from going in far enough to fully open the second gate. Thus gas splashes back and trips the sensor for the nozzle to disengage the hands-free mech. This explains why people report only having the issue at certain stations. ELSE- might have EVAP issue. However, would expect that to throw a code.

I have had 2 brand new C7s, a 2015 and a 2019. Both did not like putting in gas with the nozzle in the normal position and squeezed for fast gas flow. I had to put the nozzle in with the handle pointed straight up to avoid the nozzle from clicking off when I wanted high fuel flow . Other wise you could always pump slow and have no problems.

Nothing in the 2017 owners manual mentioned anything about holding the fueling nozzle at some weird angle to fill the tank...no TSB's either but there is service info (below)which addresses this... if this was my car and I was having fill issues I'd be disconnecting the hose from the tank in my above post that goes to the EVAP cannister and see if the tank can be fueled normally...I'm sure is this were some type of design flaw or part part GM surely wouldn't "fess up" !!...also NOT a good idea to fill the tank up to the "brim".when fueling...the EVAP cannister wasn't made to store liquid fuel...only vapors.

I've driven plenty of otherwise perfectly functioning cars that don't like being filled at high rates.
e30 BMWs, first and second generations Miatas, most 911s, the c7 corvette...
some pumps are more sensitive than others. some cars have a fuel filler line that's angled in such a way that makes this problem worse. a larger diameter fill hose would fix most of these issues, but you're usually restricted by space available -- gotta have that crash protection against inattentive morons driving themselves around alone in full size trucks and SUVs, after all.

The most common issue for this is the EVAP. The design of the neck is also at play but the reason this occurs for most people is due to a bad EVAP vs the one's who have no issue.
Both my C7s did this when new has done and based on how common it is I sucked it up, now the B2B is up and I'm not willing to pay to fix the issue. Oh well, I only fill it up once a month in the summer so an extra 2min fueling slowly isn't a big deal.

This may be an EVAP vent valve stuck closed (normally open) or possibly a clogged EVAP canister…vent valve item 3…and canister just above it…you could try and disconnect the hose and see if your fill issue improves…if the canister may be clogged you can disconnect the EVAP hose at the top of the canister that goes to the top of the tank and see if that helps...if you have some electrical know how you can disconnect the vent valve solenoid and apply 12 volts and ground to it and see if the solenoid “clicks”.
This. You beat me to it. I've had this issue with two other vehicles and both times it was the evap not venting properly. Ours looks pretty easy to get to. Thanks for the diagram!

The problem is poor design. Many of us have a problem filling the car with gas. This should not be an issue.
I find inserting the nozzle only until it pushes past the second gate works well. But we should not be forced to tricks merely to fill up.

Filling up
I agree. We have tried all of the tricks for our 2015. Just replaced the canister vent and you can still hear the full tube getting full very fast. Then it clicks the pump off. I may try disconnecting the large hose from the canister and see if it fills and faster. If it does, maybe I have a clogged canister.

Funny thing is my SUV is a capless system and I can put pump on full lock it in and walk away.. it's something specific to the C7 design.... never could get an actual 100% here is why answer or real solution I just accept it
